  • Good for beginners

If you just got your first guitar and this app subscription came cheap (or free), this could be an excellent place to start your guitar journey. On the other hand, if you’re intermediate or beyond, there’s not much here to challenge you. The songs are highly simplified (often beyond recognition), and the techniques are very basic. Shame…I was hoping for lessons of all levels, not just beginners. I got it on sale, so I wasn’t too disappointed, but as an advanced guitarist, I will not resubscribe.
  • For absolute beginners

I was a pretty advanced player ~10-15 years ago. This seemed like a convenient way to get my chops back after such a long break. This was way more limited than I expected. Not many songs in the catalogue I cared for. No enough theory. But for an absolute beginner, it seems like there’s some great content in here

Feedback mode hangs a lot …requires restart
  • Ok, but the Justin Guitar app is 10x better

This app is ok, but is overpriced and lacking in useful content that will aid the beginning guitarist. It’s largely just learning chord shapes, which is easily obtainable for free elsewhere. I switched to the Justin Guitar app, and my learning speed increased tenfold. Justin addresses the realities and challenges that Fender doesn’t (e.g. A chord challenges, importance of mindset and rest), and has superior automated practice tools such as the single string chord building accuracy tester and the chord change timer/counter. Justin Guitar’s content, methods, and tools are head and shoulders above Fender’s.
  • An excellent learning vehicle

You read log of negative comments about this app. Totally disagree with a lot of statement being made. Most of the technical issues are resolved by closing other apps and screens first. The instructors are a little wooden and not as fun as some you tube instructors. Explanations and videos are very good. I spend at least an hour a day on my lessons for bass (rock). Lots of fun iconic riffs are on the lessons . There is no advertising at all. They don’t even discuss gear in the lessons.

As an 62 year old beginner, I’ve progressed very quicklyI wish fender play was there 44 years ago when I tried to play the first time, before work got in the way. How good would I be now—-/ lucky kids.
  • Excellent, methodical and structured approach

I find Fender Play to be an excellent way to learn to play guitar. It’s a structured and methodical approach and I can practice as much and whenever as I wish and at whatever pace I need. I can replay lessons it’s I want to practice as many time as I wish or to brush up on a particular skill. As I move through the levels at my own pace, to enable me to learn various skills, I change between electric and acoustic, and styles. I know I’m learning skills from world class instructors who simplify and make each lesson understandable. Overall, I can’t say enough good things about Fender Play and find I look forward to practicing daily using Fender Play and the joy of picking up my guitar! I also find the FP Facebook page a great resource of knowledge and inspiration.
