Description

Moneydance is a complete personal financial management application that protects your privacy while not skimping on features. It supports online banking and bill payment, investment management, budget tracking, scheduled transactions, check printing, detailed graphs and reports, and much more. ∞ PRIVACY Moneydance encrypts your data file on your computer and uses strong end-to-end encryption for syncing. Moneydance has no advertising, and we do not collect any analytics or other data. ∞ SUMMARY SCREEN The summary screen is an overview of your entire financial picture. Account balances, a calendar of scheduled transactions and reminders, investment account status, exchange rates, and stock quotes, all at a glance. ∞ ONLINE BANKING Moneydance can download transactions and send payments through over 11,000 financial institutions. It learns how to categorize and clean up downloaded transactions. Send online payments, for banks that support them, directly from scheduled transaction notifications. Please note that some banks charge a monthly fee for their services. ∞ ACCOUNT REGISTERS The account register is used to add, edit, and delete transactions in an account. Balance calculations and transaction sorting are done automatically. Payee auto-completion makes it ridiculously easy to enter and categorize your transactions, while the quick-search field helps find those needles in the haystack. ∞ INVESTMENTS Follow your investments and bring your portfolio into focus with support for stocks, bonds, CDs, mutual funds, and more. View the total value of your investment accounts or the performance of individual stocks and mutual funds over time. Stock splits and cost basis computations are a snap, and current prices are automatically. ∞ REMINDERS Easily schedule future or recurring transactions so you'll never miss a payment. ∞ GRAPHS/REPORTS Generate visual reports of your income, expenses, budgets, and investments. Flexible parameters let you customize your reports by period, tags, categories, accounts, and more. Mouse over regions of graphs or double-click on report cells to reveal details. Easily save graphs and reports to images or html files, or memorize their settings for quick access. ∞ BUDGETS Set spending and income targets for categories per month, week or any other interval. View your up-to-the-minute budget status right in the toolbar, on the summary screen or in graphs and reports. Use the highly acclaimed "envelope method" to specify expenses for each period and your status is shown with over-budget items highlighted. ∞ SYNC Enable syncing via iCloud Drive or Dropbox to share your data across computers or mobile devices of any platform. Keep up-to-date with partners or accountants over end-to-end encrypted channels for the ultimate security. ∞ NATURAL LANGUAGE TRANSACTION ENTRY Type a transaction description into the search field to have Moneydance cleverly fill in the details. For example, typing "1.23 sta" will suggest a transaction at Starbucks with the "Coffee" category and the last account you used at Starbucks. ∞ ATTACHMENTS Attach images, PDFs, and other files to transactions by dragging them into the register. Attachments are stored fully encrypted, but clicking its icon will decrypt and open it appropriate application. ∞ MOBILE Use the (free) Moneydance mobile app while on the go to record or edit transactions and view balances. Changes are synced instantly and securely with end-to-end encryption across all of your devices.

  • Replace Quicken

It imported my data quite well, even from an older version of Quicken for Mac. It doesn't collect data, and it works on M-series Macs, albeit via Rosetta. Hoping for an update or newer version that is built for M-series Macs, but this has been great for me so far.

They say it sync with online accounts in the producti description but they do not clarify you need to pay for a subscription (ontop of the one time purchase) to use that feature. Requesting a refund through Apple Support. Update to Dev response: It's still false advertising as no where on the App page does it say there's "additional purchases," you clearly list that this has access to 11,000 banks -- that is NOT true unless you pay for a subscription. You are literally breaking Apple's ToS by not disclosing this.

I like this app very much. I've been using it for three years. I am not particularly savvy financially or technically, and I am of a certain age, but I am able to track all my accounts and expenditures easily on my macbook, and the reports and graph functions work well. I don't download financial information direct from my banks because I worry about security, but I understand how to do it with this app and could do it if I wanted to. I wish there was an instruction manual posted on line that I could refer to, but other than that, this is a very functional app.

I've tried numerous money management apps, but Moneydance is by far the best of the bunch. I Just wished they would include a copy and paste function.

I switched from Microsoft Money when it was not longer supported on my PC. After researching Personal Financial Software I discovered Moneydance and have not looked back. I use it for my personal checking and savings accounts and for multiple investment accounts. Very happy with Moneydance and use it now on MacBook.
  • Excellent Solution

I've used YNAB, Quicken, Firefly III and other budgeting apps but Moneydance is currently my favorite. I switched back to it from Quicken just a couple of months ago as it offers two things no one else does, it syncs securely via iCloud and ADP and still gives me support for more currencies than Quicken. That said, my needs are simple. I manually enter every transaction and categorize each with my own extensive set of categories. I've been doing this for 25 years and all that's really changed for me is the utility of a mobile app. Quicken's is descent but, for the cost, Moneydance is just better. I've found the mobile app easier to use with MD, though a bit quirkier on the sync. The app itself is a bit easier to reconcile with manual entry and gets bonus points from me as it works on Linux as well as Mac. If you're looking for a solution to see what you've spent and what you have I highly recommend it.

I ordered this by mistake a few weeks ago when I was trying to order another financial tracking app. But since I had it, I decided to go ahaed and try to set it up. The app di look nice, but it was a failure on my new MacBook Pro that I purchased a couple months ago. I finally gave up on trying to make it work, and moved on to look for a better app that I could track my finances with. I did attempt ot get a refund from Apple, But it was denied. They said the app is not elegible for any refunds. Well, I guess I'm just stuck with the loss.

  • Great alternative to Quicken

I had used Quicken for many years until last year when it no longer functioned properly on my PC and their support help was unable to give me a permanent fix to an issue. At the same time I switch to a Mac and decided to give Moneydance a try as a replacement to Quicken. Exporting the data from Quicken to Moneydance was straightforward, transferring all of the data, categories, and accounts, although not all were correctly identified, and required a number of hours to correct the data. The most common issue was making withdrawals from investment accounts appear as deposits. It is necessary to read the online manual since the program will do more then Quicken but the approach to doing tasks is slightly different, so be prepared for a steep learning curve. We have a combination of bank accounts, credit cards, and investment accounts that the program follows. It does a much better job of following budgets including month-to-month rollovers of funds then Quicken and in a much easier visual way, where three months of information is shown rather then just the current month. Reminders are also much clearer with all located on a monthly page, rather then being entered within the register as they occur. I never used Quicken's Direct Connect, rather we use Web Connect, which works the same in Moneydance as in Quicken, where the QFX file is downloaded from the financial instituion and applied to the specific account. The investment accounts require manual entry of dividends and reinvestment, the same as entering a check or transaction in the checking account. While I miss the automatic update to the stock prices in the investments that Quicken had, updating the current market value manually is easy enough by entering the price on that particular date. Since I don't constantly trade, updating it on a weekly basis is good enough to meet our needs. Moneydance is also significantly less the Quicken's yearly subscription rate to do this automatically. The only issue that I have found is with a specific downloaded transaction that does not recognize it has been previously entered, even when merged numerous times. By downloading only the most recent month for this one account, this has not been a further problem. I give this app 5 stars since it functions exactly as I need it to, especially since I have always used Web Connect method to download transactions manually rather then Direct Connect (or Quicken Connect). It will do everything with enough time and patience to figure out how to get what you need from it, and highly recommend this app.

On my last review I withheld a star because the stock price downloading feature wasn't working. Actually it had been fixed a couple of days ago, I didn't realize, and it's working great. Thanks Infinite Kind! With that fix I think this is the best personal finance manager I've ever used, and I've tried quite a few of them.
