  • Almost a dream-worthy paper replacement

This in by far my favorite notes/drawing app but it’s lacking some key features and has some infuriating elements. Expansive drawing spaces with custom grids? Check. Amazing line smoothing and stroke measurements? Double check. Multiple layers, writing utensils, colors? Definitely. BUT Trying to hide/move the toolbar? Might just draw a line through your work; over and over no matter if it’s with the pencil or your finger Trying to set a different measurement for your grid and pencil (ie 1/4in graph with 0.3mm lead)? Can only choose metric or imperial for BOTH measurements and line weight. Want to change the grid scale for reference without changing the existing drawing size? Prepare to have a massively large drawing that you can’t scale back down because it exceeds the maximum zoom range. I think this is a 5 star app with lots of 2 star issues. Maybe this could be fixed with a better tutorial, but it feels like the issues lie with UI, not instructions. I want to love it but over the past almost year, even with premium features, I find a lot of these issues can really disrupt the illustration that your drawing on paper, not an app.

  • Lacks essential features

I really tried to love Concepts and use it as my primary note-taking app. But it just didn’t work out. Concepts just isn’t that good for the overall student. The text feature is incredibly limited, and this is my major concern. Any note-taking app will at least have some text formatting options, but Concepts has none. Worse, the text box doesn’t even resize as you change it. The text gets stretched out instead of moving onto the next line. Also, it’s pricey, and Concepts just isn’t that great compared to the free alternatives like Freeform (available on all iOS devices).
  • Recent update broke the 1.5 pencil brush.

Used to just swipe it on the screen and was a fun pencil brush, now I have to scrub on the screen at full opacity to get a visible line, unlucky.
  • Read the Manual

Not the easiest to learn if you don’t read the manual, but when you do you’ll find that this is a solid program. I love it.
  • Polished and intuitive

Note: I’ve only been using this for about half an hour, but it has been the smoothest experience out of any similar tools I’ve tried so far, and I’ve been searching. Procreate is known for having a very intuitive user friendly interface, and Concepts takes that a step up. Not only are tools easy to find and configure, but the whole UI looks and feels beautiful, sleek and efficient. Tools and settings have descriptions in their pop up windows so you aren’t left guessing. I wasn’t sure at first what could be so great about a color palette to make people talk about it the way they do, but my god what a color palette. The subscription pricing seems really reasonable for a powerful art program, and aside from there being a solid free version, I appreciate that there’s a one time purchase tool unlock option so you’re not forced into a subscription to get a little more functionality. Excited to keep discovering more cool functions.
  • Annoying interface

Sorry but the interface is too complicated and getting a vector output out of it needs hours of looking around for simple functions.
  • Looking forward to cloud saving!

The nicest infinite canvas app I’ve found.
  • I Was Ripped Off - Paid Yearly for Two Years and Bought Extra Brush Set - Concepts Denied Me Access…

…Concepts seemed like a great app so I went ahead and bought a yearly subscription in addition to paying for brush sets. Every time I tried to use Concepts, the interface said I had to “upgrade to pro.” Also, the brushes I bought magically disappeared. I contacted support. I was told that I was not able to access the content and my subscription because I had switched from an Android tablet to an ipad, no matter that my concepts account was synced correctly on my iPad. I attempted to follow the instructions their so-called “support” person provided, but they were all dead-ends. He basically led me around in circles by the nose. The loser said that I would have to get a refund from the playstore, not concepts. I attempted that. Not possible. I paid for more than two years of the pro subscription that I did not get to use, and lets not forget the brushes. Top Hatch literally stole from me, outright. It was pretty obvious by the “support” loser’s responses that he was either trolling me or messed something up and was trying to cover his mistake. If you’ve experienced something similar, please leave your review here with a way to contact. If there are enough people, it could be worth filing against them.
