I don’t have anything bad to say about the app. I have no idea why I bought it though. I have Apple Pod Cast supplemented with Wondery+ already and this app doesn’t offer any features I would use that the others don’t and I don’t even use all of those features so if this app does offer extraneous features, alas they are lost on me. I still don’t remember buying this but I obviously did. I don’t even drink!

Only app with ads I can tolerate. More slow speed options would be welcome, or video podcast support, or a begin from the beginning mode for a podcast. But still my preferred client without those.
  • Meh .... overhyped

Would give 5 stars but watch app never updates/syncs. Update …Apple Watch app.. it simply does not update the podcasts on the watch. The watch version is basically unusable.

I’ve been using overcast for years and love it! Super reliable. I can find most of the podcasts (save a few that are exclusive to Spotify) Overcast is my daily companion!!
  • Volume control on Apple Watch hasn’t worked properly since October 2023

When playing a podcast on the iPhone you cannot control the volume on the Apple Watch anymore. It started first only working if you backed out of the episode that was playing screen on the watch then tapped back in and the volume would work. Now, it doesn’t work at all. When you spin the watch dial, it shows the volume on the watch app going up and down, but the volume doesn’t change on the iPhone. Nothing happens. That’s been going on since February 2024. Again this is when playing a podcast on the iPhone Overcast app and using the Apple Watch Overcast app controls. There’s been numerous Apple iPhone and watch updates and it hasn’t fixed it so I can only assume it’s an Overcast app issue which hasn’t been resolved in 6 months. Will not be renewing my subscription after 5 years of paying for the pro version. Only getting 2 out of months of functionality from a paid service out of 7 months is unacceptable to say the least. Good while it lasted.

I’ve used the Overcast app since 2016 or 2017. I originally switched so I had more control over speed and playlists. I love the smart playlists and ability to organize my podcasts the way I want. That way my playlists are ready for whatever mood or activity I’m in. When podcasters set up chapter marks able to use them and skip to the sections I want. Not only does it have tons of speed increments but I’m able to set them individually by podcast. I always recommend Overcast to anyone looking for a better podcast listening experience.
  • Best Podcast App out there.

The number of ways you can organize and arrange your favorite podcasts is fantastic.
  • Let’s you make playlists but no recovery for deleted items

Great that I can make playlists out of my podcasts but I have to mark each item as unplayed if I want to listen to them again. Guess what button is right next to the unplayed one (spoilers: it’s the delete button). Unfortunately, if you accidentally hit “delete” there’s no confirmation (an “are you sure” pop up would be fantastic) or any sort of recycle bin so they can be restored in any way. The fact that the playlists don’t work once the items have been played (it’ll start playing things outside the playlist) and a lack of a way to restore deleted files is absolutely frustrating. Overall, the app is better than the native iOS one, but it’s not as good as it could be.
