Description

The Assistant follows one day in the life of Jane (Emmy® Award winner Julia Garner, Ozark), a recent college graduate and aspiring film producer, who has recently landed her dream job as a junior assistant to a powerful entertainment mogul. But as Jane follows her daily routine, she, and we, grow increasingly aware of the abuse that insidiously colors every aspect of her workday, an accumulation of degradations against which Jane decides to take a stand, only to discover the true depth of the system into which she has entered. Also starring Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), The Assistant is "a powerful movie about the ways power enforces silence" (Vanity Fair).

Is this a pioneer for a new genre of movie? Felt like a short story brought to the big screen. I think this style has a future. This particular movie though was so-so but I appreciate the way it was done.

Seriously. The whole show focused on day-to-day tasks of an office assistant. There was no point - no climax - hardly any actual speaking - I have no memory of music throughout the show. I sat there waiting for the big reveal - the big reason why the whole show focused on this girl's stressful day...but it never came. IF I wanted that, heck, I'd go to work. Absolute mess and should have never been produced.

I was encouraged by the subject of the film and glad that someone was making a movie about such an important issue in our culture. It's really too bad that the movie was so poorly made. When it was over I felt a sense of relief (it was over) and anger (I wasted my time) and amazement that the producers of this film were willing to put their names on it. What a colossal failure.

There’s nothing happens, no storyline or plot! I should’ve spent my time playing CoD than wasting it on nothing!

I have no idea how this movie made it through production and some distributor financed it. Hey, it's really low budget, I know. This has to be one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. There is no conflict, no character developement, no meaningful morals or platitudes, and certainly no acting. This chick (yea, I said it) never EVER broke her completely wooden and hung over countenance. it was painful to watch. She is obviously very depressed, very disturbed by her job and has not an ounce of empathy from anyone - especially me, the viewer. The only brightside? That chick (yep, I said it again) from "Searching for Alaska" TV mini-series on Hulu shows up in a cameo, but again, she does NOTHING. Sits down, reads a binder and is told she can leave. This movie is flatlined. DOA

They should’ve paid me 99cents to watch this movie since I’m not gonna get this hour and a half back...

So so bad. How a movie this poor can be made with Ruth from Ozark is baffling.
