Description

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is remembered today as an American hero: a bridge-builder, a shrewd political tactician, and a moral leader. Yet throughout his history-altering political career, he was often treated by U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies like an enemy of the state. In this virtuosic documentary, award-winning editor and director Sam Pollard (Editor, 4 LITTLE GIRLS, MO' BETTER BLUES; Director/Producer, EYES ON THE PRIZE, SAMMY DAVIS, JR.: I'VE GOTTA BE ME) lays out a detailed account of the FBI surveillance that dogged King's activism throughout the '50s and '60s, fueled by the racist and red-baiting paranoia of J. Edgar Hoover. In crafting a rich archival tapestry, featuring some revelatory restored footage of King, Pollard urges us to remember that true American progress is always hard-won.

Please ignore the inbred racist troglodytes that gave negative reviews....This was a great film that once gain illuminates the shameless skullduggery that this “great nation” always seems to find itself on the wrong side of....

Timeless and timely. I didn’t know about this and wished I had learned about this more in school. Everyone should know this happened. It matters so much TODAY!
  • Should’ve been a Series

This is a wonderful film. The only knock I can think of is the fact that it contains quite a bit of info for under 2 hours. It should’ve been a four or five part series to let the I go breathe and sink in.

MLK/FBI was a great film. It provided a perspective on the FBI that I had never learned. It made me all the more in awe of MLK’s vision for humanity despite the personal pressures. It also was discreet in shearing light on MLK’s personal life which was until recently, was private. Very interesting.

Excellent and compelling film. It was chilling to see just how far the FBI’s campaign of hatred went. I loved the use of audio-only interviews until the very end. The interviewees served as our trusted narrator as opposed to characters. Really beautifully done and highly recommend the watch.

It could not be more timely to learn how much the fight for racial justice was always considered a threat to the default American power structure. What a brilliant and powerful film!
