I hadn’t heard much on the streets or media about the movie but I do enjoy martial art movies when good, took a chance so I could watch on a long car ride. I really enjoyed it! Subtle comedy mixed with martial arts, fatherhood, friendship, relationships, and over coming challenges. You need to watch it.

I rented this movie on a whim. What a fantastic surprise! Great fight scenes. A good story. And will time to humor! It’s like karate kid meets 36 chambers meets Old School. Really entertaining and just satisfying from a middle aged man’s point of view. I’m buying this movie. I liked it so much.

Worth a watch. It’s not taking itself too seriously. If you have watched the Master Ken videos, then you get the humor. I think some of these negative reviews are people expecting Karate Kid instead of say something like Kung Fury, also a good one to look up. Enjoy it for what it is. I also feel like some of these negative reviews, due to how few there are are just fake and people who like to complain about everything like their icecream being too cold. Just chill. It isn’t A-list for sure. But there is far worse out there that is probably sitting in your movie collection right now. This crew stuck to their belief in a project close to their heart. I have read interviews with the creators here and they refused millions in investment from big studios due to the studios wanting to force casting changes that made zero sense. I am glad they stood against the casting changes because lately, others are giving in and their films suffered for it.
  • A film crew that stuck to their guns!

I've followed this project for years (it takes time to get an indie feature off the ground) and met the director and a couple of the producers. They refused investment that required them to make casting changes they didn't want to make, knowing the cost would be time and uncertainty. In the end, with no big studio bosses, they could use as much under-represented cast as they wanted, and make exactly the film they wanted to make. The film's authenticity shines through. Great work Bao and team! On to the next one!
  • A simple yet great movie!

For those in the martial arts world, this movie gives a little insight into the culture that is still practiced to this day. Some of it as well is how Asians see how the culture is being affected this day and age. Sure the plot is simple.., but it’s so much more about culture and beliefs splashed with comedy.
  • Never gets off the ground

So much potential to be funny, but this movie never got off the ground. Huge disappointment and a waste of time.
  • Fantastically fun martial arts comedy

If you are in the mood for a fun throwback movie that has some pretty good fight scenes, this is the movie for you. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and has fun with the characters as they journey to be honorable people. Great movie for the whole family! This isn’t a fake review as some 1 star reviewers are suggesting. I really did love The Paper Tigers.
