Anybody comparing this to the grossly underwhelming The Illusionist is insane. Densely packed with detail and twists, the more you watch the Prestige the more you notice things you didn’t before. Dark, chilling and completely twisted, this isn’t something to miss if you like Christopher Nolan’s other films

With The Prestige, Christopher Nolan may not have his most memorable work, but he does have one of his best. Nolan’s script and direction deftly guide a brilliant Hugh Jackman and a mysterious Christian Bale in a thrilling maze of twists and turns that will keep you guessing. 9/10

By Hollywood standards, this is a good film. I enjoyed it, but for the fantasy Tesla part, because it clashed so much with the attempts at stark realism of the disclosure of what magic really is. The brutality that Christian Bale's character undergoes (mind you I am trying hard to avoid spoilers here, so don't hold semantics against me) just for a trick feels quite real but is juxtaposed with fantasy terror experienced by Jackman's character, and this fantasy horror element steers the film into the realm of trick hypothetical moral dilemmas, which in the end lessens its impact. It simply became the kind of a trick on the audience it was intended to be critical of. Anything to awe them. In the end it failed to fully engage with the questions it raised, so the questions themselves became a kind of a look at me! exclamation. It is an enjoyable, well crafted film. But, I really wish the character development for Jackman's part involved a more realistic villainy, so as not to turn this into a steampunk cliche. Essentially, it is a dark fairy tale. Entertainment with fantasy elements and a dark twist. Could have been much more.

Not uplifting, cheerful, colorful, happy, or easily watchable, but one of my favorite movies ever.
  • The best movie about magic

This is by far one of Christopher Nolan’s best films besides the dark knight and interstellar. This is also the best movie about magicians probably ever. Even though this movie was a little dark and sometimes confusing it still shines with great acting and amazing dialogue. Nolan does a super job with making this movie, that almost everyone thought was going to be a boring one, the opposite of boring. This movie was filled with great acting, music, and dialogue. The entire cast showed all of there acting skills in this movie. This is probably the only movie that will make you say, wow I did not see that coming. This movie also made us question if competition like this could end up in such a mess like this. In the end a great movie to watch if your felling curious and wondering what to watch.

The movie itself is pure brilliance, but be warned: The audio is PAINFULLY low. This had nothing to do with my own setup, as other itunes movies sound perfect on my system. This is something on apple's end, and I have contacted them. Again, the movie is fantastic, just be warned you may encounter audio level issues. I thought giving a lower score based solely on Apple's issue would be unfair to Nolan and this great film.
