Description

The State was the coolest sketch comedy show on TV in the early 1990's, and due to overwhelming demand, it's being released from the MTV vault and introduced to the digital age. Season 1 of The State exhibits the show's humble beginnings, and the birth of some of its most popular characters: groove-happy hipsters LeVon and Barry (Michael Ian Black and Thomas Lennon), grungy teen-malcontent Doug (Michael Showalter), and the guy who comes in and says his catch phrase over and over again, Louie (Ken Marino)! These actors and the rest of the eleven member cast -- Kevin Allison (Orange Quarters, Best Week Ever), Ben Garant (Reno 911!, Herbie: Fully Loaded), Todd Holoubek (You Wrote It, You Watch It), Michael Patrick Jann (Drop Dead Gorgeous), Kerri Kenney (Reno 911!, Viva Variety), Joe Lo Truglio (Hitch), and David Wain (Stella, Wet Hot American Summer) -- also doubled as the writing team and crew during the cult classic's five-episode first season. The comedy is old school but the writing is still as fresh as ever and now you can take it wherever you go, "aww yeah, baby!"

I am embarrassed for the cast of this nonsense. Not even remotely funny.
  • The music matters

I REALLY WISH I READ THE REVIEWS. At first I was very excited to see that iTunes had MTV’s The State, so I downloaded everything. However, iTunes doesn’t warn me that although this is The State that I SAW, long ago, it is a lot different. They music isn’t there and the music matters. For example, season 3, episode 3, the ‘Origami’ sketch had the INXS song, Don’t Change. That song really ‘made’ that sketch. Without it, it is not the same. It really is a letdown.
  • Not as good without the original music.

Much of it is still really funny, but Barry and Levon without Sexual Healing is a crime...

and a lot grosser. I know for a fact that the later episodes of the State have some hilarious sketches on them...but the early ones...not so good. Especially the pretty weak first few episodes.
  • Comedy at its worst.

I was only 13 when I first saw The State. It reminds me of my teenage years, and when MTV just only showed music videos. Now MTV is just trash, but what I'm getting into is that this show was the best comedy at its time. This opened up MAD TV and other shows like Reno-911 and others. Get this show if you want to reminisce 1993 all over again!
  • AMAZING.

The State was one of my favorite shoes back when I was a kid. I'm so happy to see it on Itunes, but I'm ready for some more seasons.
