Reviews

  • Would be better if it had a consistent font size

The apps constantly updated portion (The World in Brief) uses a tiny font compared to the rest of the app, so if you wanted a consistent reading experience you have to constantly toggle the font size.
  • Huge memory and battery drain

One of the recent updates introduced some sort of memory leak where the app is painfully slow to use and drains the phone battery. I love the economist but the developers should step up if we’re paying an ever increasing subscription fee.
  • App never worked

App has never worked even though I subscribe to print edition. Customer service is useless and are more concerned with frustrating you into giving up than solving the problem.
  • App is extremely slow

Content is very good, but the app just doesn’t work anymore. It takes ages to load an article, it freezes frequently, and the interface is pretty bad. For such a simple app, it’s astonishing
  • App lag is terrible

Combine this with repeated delivery issues of print edition and this is the end of my 35 year subscriber run

Wonderful journalism, excellent writing, and mixed with tongue and cheek gimmer

I’m such a fan of their reporting but their app blows. It’s so laggy that it is borderline unusable. Every time I click on an article I can’t scroll for 5 seconds and then it immediately opens up a picture to full screen and won’t let me exit for 3 seconds. This is ridiculous. All your app does is deliver text and pictures. It isn’t open heart surgery. I pay good money for your subscription and I would like a good UI. For developers: I’m using an iPhone 13 but it wasn’t very good on my iPhone 12 or Lenovo android tablet
  • If price is going up it needs improvements

Great app but if you’re increasing pricing you should at least improve the app experience: 1) Apple Watch, including downloads to the device 2) CarPlay App 3) unless you provide ALL weekly content through the iOS podcast app to verified accounts 4) I just wish it was easier to come back to long articles and continue reading where one left off. 1843 articles and economist briefings can get rather long, why not allow readers to leave a bookmark and come back where they left off? Sync across devices, even audio, similar to what you’re able to do in Kindle? People w/o print have a hard time reading what is probably your best reporting- long form Also leaving this as a review since the app doesn’t have a “feedback” option. 🤷🏻‍♂️
