  • Many problems, still no fix

Problem list * Search is still slow and clunky, why would we upgrade when you cannot even search a pdf properly? [*] Adding new pages and they don’t show up on the interface. They do appear on the “thumbnails” view, but not on the actual notebook interface, it just appears there was no change and no page added. [*] OSX goodnotes cannot edit custom pen colors, you’re stuck with the ugly default color options [*] Cannot use command F to search when ≥ two windows are open. If you open a new window, the function of searching does not work. It is not appreciated that they are trying to charge for an upgrade for GN6 before even offering a functional GN5, and hijacking the good reviews for “GN6” to jumpstart its success. This seems very unethical. [•] As of 27 December 2023, the search function and outline links are frequently dysfunctional. If user taps on a different outline page, the document remains unchanged on present page. This occurs on iOS for iphone, ipad, and osx. When searching for text, clicking it sometimes results in nothing, the page does not change to the desired page. When clicking outline items, the page does not change. Rarely quitting the app helps, more often the problem persists. This problem has existed for several months at least. Also Lag when searching. Very slow and occurs often. This occurs well after the indexing is complete, it still takes up to 10 seconds to locate text in a moderately sized document (300 pages) [•] Maximized screen space in GN6. I downgraded because I lost real estate on GN6. Maybe make it customizable so users can retain workspace. [•] Hijacking reviews to make an in-app upgrade for GN6. This is deceptive, it is basically the same app, minimal updates except dashed lines and colored folders. Most users need note taking, not the AI features. Should be a separate in-app purchase. I would gladly pay a fair subscription to support the team, but this was a poor decision. [•] sometimes items do not copy, will copy, cut etc, and cannot paste, the option to paste does not appear. This occurs regardless of confirming what the lasso is set to select. [•] Adjusting text boxes on OSX - one can only adjust the left border initially, and then and only then can user adjust the right border. Problem does not exist on iOS. [•] GN6 and GN5 share the same reviews but they are two different apps. This is obviously poor business practice, and the app store should indicate which app the users are reviewing. [*] Cannot adjust text size of individual letters within a word. When clicking away it just reverts to the same font as the rest of the text. [*] Need buttons other than “escape” to close text boxes. This conditions the user to use the escape key after typing, which can be detrimental in other applications and web text entry, which often closes the text box and deletes the message (such as in web apps and Discord). Needed features [•] Customizable toolbar - Enable user to remove unused icons from toolbar. Many of these are useless to me like the ‘shapes’, stickers, typing, and image. I would just long press to add an image. I can’t even see my colors because of the excess real estate occupied by the unused tools [*] Favorite Font/ Text Box styles, at least 3 different settings needed. This is available in almost all basic word processing apps where you can save up to 10 text styles and convert text with a keyboard shortcut. Seriously what are they doing with AI, stickers, and SAT prep when they haven’t even developed a functional text and notebook app? They are really misled and another note app is going to blow them out of the water soon, and they aren’t even going to have a core devoted user-base because they have shafted all the devoted GN5 users with the deceptive forced update to GN6 which is the same app w/o any new features. [•] Stack outline to enable collapsing of outline items [•] Increased Zoom capability. This will allow some proximity to infinite paper. [•] Searching for exact phrases with quotes. This would have been logically completed way before the attempt at integrating AI [•] Improve flashcard tool with (A) “tape flashcards” like feature that integrates the ability to both cover a key word in a sentence, or label of an image and (B) the ability to navigate “tape flashcards” with TAGS, so you can test on specific subjects within the notes/textbook and (C) classic flashcard features such as easy-medium-hard and (D) the ability to toggle the tape ON or OFF when TESTING yourself vs REVIEWING the document, respectively . [•] OCR to recognize text within pasted images (should have done way before AI predictive text) [•] Multi-tiered bullets please. Core features that work well [1] searching across notes/handwriting/pdf from library takes you to the specific page (but still cannot search exact phrases). This is a key feature missing from most other notebook apps. Goodnotes has done a fantastic job here of allowing you to filter through each of user handwriting vs user text vs uploaded pdf. As a medical student, I formerly would recommend this app to all my colleagues and tutees. At present I can no longer recommend Goodnotes, until the basic core features are implemented and functional, given the problems and lack of attention to basic features. Until this is fixed, I will be looking for alternatives and recommending alternatives. They also need to stop the scam of stealing GN5 reviews for GN6, and implement the basic fundamental features needed in a note taking app as a a priority over SAT prep that very few need and now have to pay for features they do not need.
  • I need GIF!! I need GIF!!

I had given feedback to you several years ago (during the GoodNotes 4 era) that I hoped to add GIF functionality to the app. However, I have not seen any updates to this feature for at least the past 5 years, which has left me quite disappointed. I believe that adding such a feature would not be too difficult for your team. Therefore, I have decided to temporarily not subscribe to GoodNotes 6, unless you can update and add GIF functionality. I want to emphasize that I do not need to edit GIFs in GoodNotes, I just hope to be able to play GIFs within GoodNotes. If I find other note-taking software that is more useful before you update this feature, I will not hesitate to abandon you.

The product was fine until the app no longer acknowledged my $29 paid subscription. Of course, there is no customer support. Super frustrating. Just thought you should know before you buy.

I got a new iPad and yes before anyone says anything I did backup everything. I went to all my apps and once I opened good notes all of my notes were GONE! I tried everything I could I went to Apple and even went as far as emailing good notes but nothing! I don’t know what to do or where to look.

Hate that I had to pay for this app again with the update. It doesn’t make sense that each time you update you have to pay.

This app have been super useful. I’m a teacher and it has helped me to keep, organize and quickly find student data information, lesson plans and notes from professional development classes. In my opinion, the only thing that would make the app even better would be more pen options. Similar to the notes app that is on apple devices. It has many different pen, writing and drawing tools. I would LOVE to see this in a future update.

I am a digital planner. I was in the middle of planning my day when the whole screen went white. I swiped to either side and the other pages were there. Yet that page was gone. It’s a hyperlink planner. I checked my syncing and my GoodNotes 6 was once again not syncing to my I cloud. My only option was to sync it to drop box which requires a subscription cuz it wouldn’t sync past a certain point. So now I pay a high subscription to GoodNotes, iCloud AND Dropbox? Oh btw, my page is still missing and GoodNotes 6 keeps crashing while I’m syncing. People use your app for planning, work and school. I have valuable info in my GoodNotes.
