You have to pay

Don’t even waste your time. The concept is really cool, but they don’t even make the app free. I saw it in an Instagram ad and was excited to download it. I like the idea of it, but there’s a big difference between this app and Pokémon Go, which it compares itself too by the way - Pokémon go is free
They make you go through the hassle of signing up and creating a profile. And after you do you get to a screen that lets you know that the first seven days are free.
Gave it a shot

While I appreciate the concept, the app is slow and contains bugs. Setting the duration of a walk/trip is pointless as it will change by itself and say it lasted seconds. When you try to fix it, it gets confused and thinks you’re time traveling. Furthermore, some birds won’t show, lists don’t seem to organize by date but rather posting date, uploading images takes a while, and the community board left me longing for customization. For example, I wish I could select to see just the posts from my state and not all the way to Canada. It feels more like a posting board than a bird app.

Be careful! They offer you a 7 day free trial but charge you $39 regardless.
Love it, but post upload is slow

I love the community and the tools. -1 star for: I don't know if it is only me but the post upload is quite slow, usually takes like a minute to upload one image.

Paywall, don’t download. Get Merlin.
Not as good as eBird or INaturalist

This app has a bad interface, poor ID tools, and is redundant. Also- the fact that there is a Birda+ paid option is upsetting. Citizen science and bird watching should NOT be a pay to play system.
Overall, this app does absolutely nothing that INaturalist doesn’t do, and makes you pay for full features, which are free on iNat.
Fantastic!

Birda is exactly what I was looking for in a social birding app! If it didn’t exist I was about to make one myself. I love that I can like and comment on other’s photos and find photos of a certain bird by species. The challenges will get me out in nature more.
There’s a few things that might make this app even better:
- Ability to change default email address
- A forums feature to discuss birding topics like best camera gear, conservation efforts, etc. and make it searchable using AI.
- A feature similar to meetup.com or couchsurfing.com where users can connect with other nearby birders to plan birding trips together. I realize safety features would need to be added.
Really great idea

Love how this app keeps track of your logs, has some gamification, is oriented towards sharing photos instead of addition to lists. I’ve paid for the full version since I really want the app to do well. The big problem is responsiveness. It takes too long from tap to tap almost no matter where I am in the system. Other apps are basically instant but don’t have the fun and social aspect of Birda that is really like to be part of my birding experience.
I don’t like my name being broadcast to everyone

I would appreciate the app more if it allowed us to display a username instead of my full name.
Bird Id seems to fail on iOS 26
