  • Sends ads via push notifications

    The app has started displaying ads through push notifications again. They send push notifications advertising their other products, with no way to turn these off unless you also turn off live bird notifications. Sad and spammy. Especially since I paid for their premium service. :(

    No way to opt out of ads for Bird Buddy products and accessories that are sent via notifications. The app itself also consistently opens with pop-ups for upsells of products or their premium service. I get more notifications and communications about their Kickstarter than birds. Already spent a premium on the hardware, but stuck with paywalled features and upselling baked into the software. Actively telling people to avoid this until notification settings are more customizable.

    Who would’ve thought birdfeeder and High Tech belonged in the same sentence? There are so many features and benefits that bring tons of fun to the bird watcher and in turn the mini little fine feathered friends nurturing on the perch! Well, done Bird Buddy Team… keep those innovations coming!

  • Not the best instructions

    I’m enjoying our bird after we finally got it figured out. Instructions could be ALOT more specific. My husband rarely struggles with things like this….but this one keeps you guessing.

  • Don’t like recent app updates

    Don’t love the new updates. Don’t ask me if your AI recognition is correct or not - that is your job! Don’t like the upsell tiles all over the place. Your AI seems to change frequently - you are identifying too many grackle sub types which are all just the same bird. Please improve the image recognition and logging of each species I see, without asking me to do extra work to identify them.

    This is an honest review being left as a challenge to the developer to stop notification spam. The app is probably a 3 star experience otherwise, but after making repeated support requests asking for marketing messages not be sent via app notifications — mixed with notifications I want like a bird notification — I really am going out of my way to leave a negative review. You’re killing your app with marketing. There are sales pitches everywhere. Upgrade here, subscribe there, just a few more days to buy a new feeder. Look, I am a developer too and understand the need to make your business profitable. But you’re having the opposite effect. It wasn’t like this when Bird Buddy first launched; I was one of the first customers. I follow you on social media, I get your emails. Don’t ruin my app with notifications I can’t opt out of about Kickstarters and subscription deals. I’ve had to disable app notifications because I don’t want your spam, but that means… I just don’t use your app anymore. And my expensive bird feeder is now just my smallest, least-squirrel proof, fussiest bird feeder. What a waste. I’d be happy to update my review if this is ever fixed, and I ever bother coming back to the app.

    Got this as a gift and if you enjoy birds you should have one. Simple step by step directions and perfect way to learn the species of each visitor. It even has a solar roof so I don’t have to charge it too often.

    Updated app no longer displays a lightning bolt icon when roof is charging the battery. My battery percentage is going up so I know it’s charging, just no icon anymore.

  • weird ai nonsense & too much sales spam

    1. please make it easier to download all pics/video from a given postcard to photo library. the recent change makes it too easy to report a sick bird when trying to download and getting to the download option takes too many taps. i’d like a one tap “download all” option please 2. i wish i could just set up notifications for my bird buddy but not my friend’s bird buddies. 3. i would also like the ability to filter by which bird buddy (mine or friends) in the uncollected/saved/archived view. 4. there is way too much spam about kickstarters and random other feeds; isn’t this a product i paid for rather than a social network trying to monetize me?
