  • “Features” don’t work

    4/23/2024 “developer” response stated “we have made some changes to address the issues you are facing. If the issue persists…” Since 2021, Automattic continues to fool….no more! In addition, their archiving of played podcasts takes up almost double storage space too (instead of deleting as other podcast apps allow). Deleted! “4/20/2024 the reply to my 10/23/2023 post was to go to some forum?!!! A few versions ago, auto-download worked for one (1) of the several podcasts that used to autodownload. Then the next version, autodownload didn’t work at all, then the version after that, four (4) podcasts autodownloaded, but the next version NO autodownload and that’s the same now with version 7.61. In addition, it’s background activity is 95 and 100%, such that it drives me to dump this nonsense. The former owner/developer was good until the current owner/developer. 10/25/2023 Since the current owners bought the app in mid-2021 the features no longer work, i.e., preferences for subscribed podcast do NOT work. No auto downloads, no notifications, no add to up next. So, one has to launch the app, tap a podcast, tap download, choose top or bottom of the queue, then go to the queue list and drag it to desired position of the queue list, i.e., not top nor bottom. So, why subscribe if nothing works? I kept thinking they would fix, but now after two years…and all the other unfixed issues that other users have reported here and elsewhere…

    I must say this has been my fav app since inception. And I’ve certainly tried them all. But in recents times constant loading lag and crashing is becoming frustrating. Please don’t make me look elsewhere. It’s too great of an app. I’ve got over 600 subscriptions and don’t want to learn a new one.

  • Best podcast app

    It’s got every bell and whistle you could want and it’s a great looking app. It is by far the best podcast player I’ve used and I have used most of them. The best part is the syncing. Apple owns the platform and can’t sync like Pocket Casts. You can listen to the app on your phone, open up the web player and literally watch the progress bar move in sync. AMAZING! Episode management work just how I like it as well. I follow way too many podcast and if I miss some or don’t listen for a while I want them to go away. The auto archive feature does exactly this and I can set each podcast to a different archive option.

  • Player blanks out Dynamic Island display

    When the Player window (with Now Plsying, Details, etc) is open, whatever is being displayed in the Dynamic Island is suppressed unless you tap on it or switch between tabs (e.g. from Now Playing to Details) (in which case that display is temporarily enabled. (The Dynamic Island display is also re-enabled if you open the Playback Effects dialog.) (I tried the support email, but it seems that is provided only for premium users.) Response to developer feedback: It doesn’t look like there’s a way to do that without creating an account (which I don’t want to do). (It would just be a copy of the above text, anyway.)

  • The Best Pod App but Now Seriously Lags

    I'm now experiencing significant performance issues with the Pocket Cast app. The app frequently lags and closes unexpectedly. For example: - It takes nearly a minute to mark an episode as played. - Refreshing the list for newly released episodes often takes over a minute and sometimes requires multiple attempts. - The app sometimes closes without warning, suggesting it might be encountering processing problems. These issues are specific to Pocket Cast, as my phone runs other apps without any problems. I'm using a free account and not utilizing cloud features, so those shouldn't be causing the issue. I really enjoy Pocket Cast and would like to continue using it. Please identify what's causing these issues and find solutions. Thank you.

    I believe I paid for app in the past. This purchase was nullified by new monthly pricing. Now features like podcast folders are being removed from app…$4 a month for a podcast app is a bit much. Spotify is free and you can add podcast folders. Unfortunately may move to Spotify.

    I’ve had this app for years and listen to a lot of podcasts. the most recent few versions have consistent glitches with playback and playlists. looking for another app.

  • Show Notes Broken in Latest Update

    Latest version of iOS app seems to have broken the Show Notes functionality. Many podcast episodes now show a "Unable to find show notes for this episode. Try again" error. Only started after latest version update and did not occur before. Force closing app and restarting makes notes show up. New bug not seen before. Paid user for 4 yrs.

  • Full-featured, yet annoying

    The app is mostly nice, but some parts of it are really annoying. Already finished episodes from the shows, which are set to add to Up Next automatically, are often being re-added to the bottom of the Up Next list for some reason. Even though I am a paying subscriber for the Plus version, I am getting in-app ads for the locked features from the Patron version. The Plus plan costs more than other popular podcast clients full plans and yet I need to pay even more to get a proper client without locked features. I don’t care that those are “early access”, why am I seeing them in the UI if I can’t use them (speaking of chapter preselection)?
