Description

Researchers at Monash University have developed the low FODMAP diet and a corresponding app to assist in the management of gastrointestinal symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The Monash University FODMAP diet works by swapping foods high in fermentable carbohydrates (FODMAPs), with low FODMAP alternatives. Around 75% of people with IBS experience symptom relief on a low FODMAP diet. The app comes directly from the research team at Monash and includes the following: - General information about the FODMAP diet and IBS. - Easy to understand tutorials to guide you through the app and the 3-Step FODMAP diet. - A Food Guide detailing the FODMAP content for hundreds of foods using a simple 'traffic light system'. - A list of branded products that have been certified by Monash as low FODMAP. - A collection of over 70 nutritious, low FODMAP recipes. - Functions that allow you to create your own shopping list and add notes to individual foods - A Diary that enables you to record food eaten, IBS symptoms, bowel habits and stress levels. The Diary will also guide you through step 2 of the diet - FODMAP reintroduction. - The ability to adjust units of measurement (metric or imperial) and activate colour blindness assistance.

  • Not very functional

The food list isn’t very well organized, the red/yellow/green lights aren’t in order, so it will show you the values randomly. Has really strange ranges too, for something like cornichons it will tell you 1.76oz is fine, then 17.07oz is in the yellow zone. I could see someone eating like 3oz of them, but who is eating almost a pound? Why not represent this in a more simplistic way. Finally, when you click “start the diet”, it just tells you what the diet is like, no more information than what you could find on Google, it doesn’t actually start anything for you. No calendar, nothing, you need to go find a dietitian to do it for you.

I love your app for recording the daily details. However, sometimes I am using my iPhone and other times my iPad. I have the app on both devices, but they do not talk to each other, entering a meal on my ipad doesn’t convey to my iPhone.
  • Simple food list needed

The food lists include packaged processed foods (from other countries despite using the country filter). It’s cumbersome to have to weed through all this just to try to find something like steel cut oats which are not listed.

Excellent tool to help manage FODMAP diet. Best part is how easy it is to look up a food a decide whether to eat or not eat. The stop light notification system makes it easy. Also love the possible portions listed allow me to experiment with a smaller serving size to see if I can have just a smaller portion of a favorite food that causes discomfort. I use the app while I’m at the grocery, when I’m out at restaurants, and even when I go to social events like weddings and parties. Like the old saying “a minute of lookup saves hours of discomfort!”

While looking through the list of all the low fodmap certified food, I have my country selected in the filter, yet I’m still seeing all the foods listed even if they are not in my country. Please fix!!!

Great app supporting amazing research. Wish the diary was more integrated (or maybe I’m not using it to its capacity). Reports & linking food to symptoms would be great. App would be perfect if it had a scanner. I would rather have a scanner with a note it may not be perfect, than no scanner at all. I’ve purchased 2 other apps that have cost $80 total to fill that void: Fig & Spoonful

Half the things I look up are not on here.

I love this app in general, but it crashes every time I try to save a new entry to the food diary. It just started happening today, so I think something went wrong with the latest update. Please fix ASAP. Thanks!

Loved the app, but yesterday it started crashing every time I try to save info in the diary. The developers quickly updated and the problem was solved! Thank you!
  • Update problem?

Since the recent update, any diary entry causes the app to close suddenly. I’ve tried restarting my iPhone, but the problem is persisting.
