Exercises include examples where the Hanzi character shown does have the correct English letters to select from, so the word is counted as an error and repeated over and over even though it is not possible to enter the correct answer. Other examples include where there is no Mandarin word or character presented, i.e. the question is blank, but you are expected to select from 4 possible answers. I was foolish to have purchased this app. Stick with the free version.

This definitive new language learning app gives Duolingo a run for its money. No intrusive advertising, more immersive content, etc. As someone who completed Duolingo and other language learning apps, I would highly recommend this one.

I originally gave this program that I’ve been subscribing to since 2020 lower review. The good people at Memrise have greatly improved the program functionality and content. Language choices have expanded, and for die hard language learners this is going to be an indispensable tool. If Development trajectory continues in this vein, they will soon be getting five star reviews from me. Try the free program and don’t let the pricing scare you. They have a Helpdesk and kind direct you to one of their languages that is working well and from there you can make an informed decision. Check out the one year subscription option, which is the same price as two months, more or less. I am no longer switching to Duolingo, but I use their free version for some languages. 2/22/26 - five stars! This program just keeps getting better and better. They listen to customer feedback, have responsive, tech-support, and are constantly improving the program. This is worth every penny, and I became a lifetime subscriber.

I loved it when I first downloaded it; I love the small videos of real native speakers saying the phrases I’m learning. However, the ai chat bot update was disappointing. I want REAL people to assist me in learning a language I’ll use to talk with real people. Not a robot. If there is not an option to disable the ai “assistant”, there should be.

I have been using the free app of Memrise. It has been helpful to learn some Italian words. However, when it comes to the constructing sentences portion, the app often freezes and states that it cannot continue. Sometimes it appears to have the wrong words as options to complete a sentence. There are often ads to purchase the paid version of Memrise; however, as the free app is glitchy, I’m leery about paying for a Memrise, as it may also have glitches . Perhaps if the free version of the app worked flawlessly I might be inclined to pay for the paid version of Memrise.

I have tried for several days now to get my Lifetime Pro Account restored. They keep sending me files to restore my personal data, but that doesn’t restore my account. When I click on Restore Purchases, I get an error message and try again later. I have tried at least a dozen times over the past five days. Apple Support was great, but they can’t help because it was an in-app purchase. Maybe I can get American Express involved, although the purchase was in December of 2024.

This is the absolute best way to learn any language this app is genius!!!!!!!!

If you’re like me and don’t understand a word of your families native tongue, this app is amazing. I highly recommend it for beginners, or people that want to unrust.
