  • Ads ruined it

This was a cool app and since they introduced ads it’s very buggy. Probably will just vibe code my own replacement. Thanks though. Still buggy, horrible experience.
  • Not Actually Free

I downloaded it because I heard about it on YouTube and thought I might try it out but immediately deleted it because as soon as I launched it after it finished installing I was greeted with a paywall for a subscription. The voices sounded nice. But I also wasn’t going to scan 400 pages of a book into the app so it could read it to me! You can’t just copy the cover and expect it to find the book. It wants you to scan ALL the pages. Ain’t nobody got time for that! Do your homework before looking into something that says free as the saying goes “no such thing as a free lunch!”

You’ll have to pay for everything nothing free on there other than free download and there is a set time for you to listen or read so not good for longer tasks if you listen while jogging or other activities
  • So far I am really impressed.

I’ve been a subscriber to Eleven Labs for a year or so now. I don’t use it as much as I’d hoped, but I enjoy it playing with it when I can. I was really excited to see the ElevenReader come out as I use Audible a lot and I’ve always had materials that I wish I could listen to instead of just reading. So I’m on my last day of the ElevenReader trial now and I will definitely be keeping the subscription. The voices are very natural and so far have handled English, Spanish, and Latin seemingly perfectly. I don’t get the AI voice annoyance feeling that I get with all those lame AI slop YouTube ads everywhere now. I’m often surprised by how natural the voice sounds. It’s only when I get a short buffering pause that I’m reminded that it’s an AI voice. I’ve been using the Callum voice a lot so far but I know there are many other great ones. Of course the famous/infamous Brian voice is available and I like that voice a lot but since it’s used by everyone I naturally tune out whatever it is reading. So far I’ve imported a lot of text files and PDFs into the app and it is pretty much effortless. Very well designed.
  • Pronunciation correction needed

I like my narrator although I was hoping for accents such as an Asian accented British narrator. So ESL. And I would love to be able to Correct the pronunciation of the names of my characters
  • Not remotely free

Their ad on TikTok made so many false claims about having tons of titles and unlimited hours of listening so I admit that my expectations were very high. It’s incredibly limited, expensive and you could easily create an AI agent to do this for you with the voices. I don’t understand why anyone would pay for this.

  • A small miracle

ElevenReader has been a small revelation for me. The quality is incredible. But the real joy comes from listening to old classics that you can find for free downloads as Epubs, but for which there are no audiobooks available. Thank you for creating this!
  • Didn’t even try it before deleting.

They want way too much personal information to even try it. Why do I need to create an account and give my date of birth? I went no further after that. Deleted the app.
  • ❗️Potential Agenda in the Free Content Selection❗️

Within my first day of using the app, it appeared to function as advertised. However, I noticed that the free library seems to lean toward a particular political/religious viewpoint. Although I didn’t select spirituality as an interest, I was shown numerous Christian and biblical books, all political books criticizing the Democratic Party (including at least 10 specifically on Obama) or memoirs praising Donald Trump, and titles questioning the legitimacy of autism and transgender identities. So, a warning to users: the free catalog seems to be far from ideologically balanced. For those who are curious, the other main topics covered in the free selection were business & self help. Also, when searching for literary classics (as I could only find Jane Austin and available within the free selection), books such as Fahrenheit 451, the Catcher in the Rye, and the Handmaid’s Tale were unavailable, even for purchase. Remember to consume mindfully, and make of that what you will 🤷🏻‍♀️
