Description

Collect, analyse, and report GCSE Geography fieldwork data directly from your iPhone. Urban Fieldwork is designed for teachers and GCSE Geography students carrying out urban fieldwork investigations. It turns your iPhone into a data collection and analysis toolkit, allowing you to gather consistent, high-quality data in the field, visualise your results instantly, and export reports in seconds. Whether you are investigating environmental quality, perceived crime, urban regeneration, or inner-city change, Urban Fieldwork keeps everything organised, visual, and ready for classroom or assessment use. Key Features Record precise site locations Automatically capture accurate GPS coordinates for each sample site, displayed instantly on Apple Maps within the app. Ideal for mapping transects or zones of urban change. Conduct Environmental Quality Surveys (EQS) Record environmental quality at each site using custom sliders and descriptors aligned with common GCSE fieldwork methods. Capture perceived crime and safety data Log perceptions of safety or crime levels to compare human responses with physical indicators. Record mood or wellbeing scores Add a “Mood Meter” value for each site to explore emotional responses to different urban environments. Measure decibel levels Use your iPhone’s microphone to take sound readings and compare noise pollution across sites. Designed for educational use, not for professional sound monitoring. Add photos directly to sites Take or attach photographs during sampling. Each image is linked to its corresponding location and included in the final report. Learn about each data collection method Within the app, users can access short explanations describing how to carry out each method and what the results reveal about urban areas. This helps students link fieldwork techniques to geographical understanding and supports independent learning. Visualise Results Instantly View every sampling point on an interactive Apple Map. Tap a point to review or edit data, photos, and notes. Identify patterns and spatial trends on the go. Export and Share Your Findings CSV Export – Generate a spreadsheet containing all data points, including coordinates, EQS scores, perceived crime, mood, decibel readings, notes, and timestamps. Import directly into Excel, Numbers, or GIS software for further analysis. PDF Report – Create a fully formatted report with a map of sampling sites, site cards with photos and data, and optional headline analysis. On supported devices, you can also include an Apple Intelligence summary generated securely on-device. All exports are created and stored locally on your device. You decide when and how to share them. Apple Intelligence Analysis (Optional) On devices with Apple Intelligence, Urban Fieldwork can generate an AI summary of your dataset, highlighting key findings, patterns, and contrasts. This analysis runs entirely on your device using Apple’s frameworks and can be included in your exported PDF report. Privacy Urban Fieldwork does not collect or transmit any personal data. All fieldwork data, including location, photos, and readings, are stored only on your device and deleted when you remove the app. No login, no account creation, and no third-party data sharing. You remain in full control of your information at all times. Ideal For GCSE Geography teachers and students Fieldwork skills and NEA preparation School and college geography departments Urban investigation projects Requirements iPhone running iOS 17 or later Location, Camera, and Microphone permissions for full functionality Works offline; internet is only needed for maps and exports Why Teachers Use It Urban Fieldwork saves time, standardises data collection, and helps students focus on interpretation rather than administration. It provides immediate visualisation, reduces transcription errors, and supports meaningful geographical analysis, all while keeping data secure and offline.
