    This app has a few banner ads which you can pay to remove but it's not built to try to influence your podcast choices and that makes it better than the vast majority of other apps including the standard apple one.

  • 2026.8.1 Playlists Fixed!

    Update: Aug 28, 2026 Curated downloads are fixed and will not delete after adding to a playlist. Thank you. Old review below: This update including a “strict episode limit” that straight up deletes episodes in progress from both my device and any playlists they’re queued in. It’s now impossible to queue up arbitrary episodes in a playlist without basically disabling the limit entirely. The old system would occasionally delete queued up episodes as well, but they would at least be maintained in playlists and could be “pinned” by playing a few seconds of them, locking them from being downloaded. I’m updating this review to 1-star until this change is reverted. It completely breaks playlists and makes it impossible to manually curate episodes to listen to.

    Aug 2026: I’m glad to still be part of this big, passionate community as a premium user. I am super grateful the dev listened and pivoted so quickly after a recent major update caused some of us to lose our queued episodes and portions of our libraries. The dev has posted on reddit they’ll move more cautiously in the future when rolling out big changes. I do think some folks like me are a little weary of how the dev’s evangelism for AI tools and his trust in them is likely outpacing their actual capabilities. Hopefully more guardrails are put in place? Why am I keeping it at 4 stars? Users shouldn’t have to be in a discord or on reddit or in test flight to be able to use an app. The dev could be so much better at communicating to users within the boundaries of the app’s text and interface. Also, I’m not sure if it’s changes to voice boost or an aspect of the downloads, but some quality of the audio experience has changed. I used to be able to listen to overcast for hours each day no problem (way longer than apple podcasts) and my ears throw in the towel a lot faster now. ——— Previous review: Love the additional speed increments. Gonna stick with the classic miniplayer over the new one because I always miss words and need to go back. So glad it’s still an option!

    Update: Years later, I return and try to put it on an iPad mini and there’s nothing here. It’s as if it’s just a gray screen. It’s not what it looked like years ago when I left these awesome reviews. It was deleted within two minutes. I will stay with Pocket Casts. Old reviews below. Love the dark mode. Love that it adapts to Waze speaking thru podcasts and replays the seconds that I missed. Love that it syncs episodes to watch if u want. Wish Apple 🍎 would let us play podcasts thru the watch’s speaker 🔈. Update Aug 2019: Still a Beast

    I switched to Overcast after the standard app was changed in super annoying ways. One thing is I don’t know what a new icon which has suddenly appeared today next to some podcast episodes. It looks like a diamond with a plus sign inside. I poked around the app and website but am unsure. I also don’t think on mobile it’s easy to see the advantages and how to subscribe.

    Just a great app for podcasts. So much better than the default Podcasts app. I love how it has improved over time and the developer is always keeping it updated and adding new features to make it better. One of my favorite features is smart speed. The podcast transcript feature is cool but I don’t really use it. Thanks for a great app!
