I am a credentialed math teacher for k-9. I have taken several upper division math classes but I have also self-taught nearly all the lower division math. So I feel like I am missing little gaps or could use a refresher on things I don’t teacher regularly. I’m loving this app. On the first four days I have done 133 lessons and over and over again and I keep wishing I could legally take screenshots to use in my classroom. The images modeling the math are so good. It’s helping me with language and modeling in my classroom. I work very hard to be able to explain the why as well as model it because I’ve had so many bad math teachers who couldn’t explain or model anything. They just said “do it” “don’t ask why it works”. So I make it a point to understand and be able to explain why and how it works. This app is increasing my ability to model and describe how and why things work in math. I really had extraordinary low expectations of this app to be honest. I mean EXTREMELY EXTRAORDINARILY LOW expectations. I am pleasantly surprised. ——- Update 12 days later on day 16 Increased four to five stars I’ve now done 287 lessons. I’m through solving equations and visual algebra. I just started real world algebra. This app is doing what common core claimed to do but has spectacularly failed to do. Show the modeling. Explain the steps in more than one connected way. I wish the Brilliant team would write School curriculum!! This would actually change the game. The depth of knowledge and understanding would skyrocket. The incrementally small lessons of deep thinking are perfect. But for curriculum they’d need many more practice problems. But seriously why can’t curriculum writers do what this team has so successfully accomplished? ———- Day 16 The geometry lessons are significantly longer than the last units. There are several times you think the lesson would end compared to previous units but it just keeps going. One lesson moves you and entire level while earning significantly few points since it’s once long lesson.

I accidentally purchased a subscription and immediately requested a refund, they got back to me within a day and fully refunded! Very speedy, very kind. This app is also very great for learning- its like the math version of duolingo (which i love). Definitely recommending!

Like the way it gradually gets more complicated and challenging. It’s really makes learning fun for me.

This is very gross and disgusting to offer plans to automatically charge the highest one. I am waiting on a refund just so I can start monthly. I would like to see this fixed in the future to show some type of responsibility.
  • ❤️it, don’t know how to redo lessons

I benefit so much from this app. When I complete a course, I often want to repeat it so I can use the interactive visualizations and get quizzed again. Instead it just shows the text and pictures of the course, showing what answers I selected without letting me redo many of the interactions that could help me review the subject. Thankfully, it sometimes lets me review some calculus subjects with a 3 question quiz but I don’t know how to control it. Minor issues include improper rounding. Thank you so much for creating this wonderful resource!

Brilliant is a great app that helps one to learn many different subjects in small digestible pieces. Want to learn about AI, Python coding, or brush up on math skills? Then Brilliant will help you do this in a fun and easy way that allows one to spend a little time here and there to build these skills. I love it!

Genuinely makes subjects I hated in college fun and interactive making those subjects click better for me. It’s very user friendly and has a wide range of subjects to learn. I also find it useful to have on my phone as it keeps me interacting with something that makes me think opposed to doom scrolling or something similar.
  • Pricing is outrageous

This app is deeply disappointing. To be clear, I'm an adult who was looking to sharpen some data analysis and math skills for fun, and I was really intrigued by the engaging format of the lessons and the variety of things you can learn. In a world where Khan Academy and Crash Course are completely free, I really do not know from where Brilliant gets the gall to charge $150/year, or a staggering $25/month! I would have considered $5/month, but this app doesn't teach you enough in depth information or skills to be worth anywhere CLOSE to what they're charging. The free version of this app is so absurdly limiting that I'm quitting 2 days after my free trial ended. You only get 2 "keys" per day to unlock lessons, but when I open the app, I am forced to redo an old lesson (ostensibly for "review") before I can access any other lessons. So I can learn ONE new thing a day. ONE new lesson that takes less than 4 minutes to complete. This seems specifically and intentionally designed to frustrate you into paying them. In general, their marketing gives the impression that their goal is to popularize STEM learning and make these concepts accessible. Then Brilliant, why are you using such a nakedly predatory pricing structure?
