When a favorite dictionary app decided to stop supporting the paid version forcing users to use their new version with ads, I went looking for a new app. Saw Oxford and immediately went to download it and paid for the upgrade. Why wouldn’t I? Owning any version of the renowned Oxford English Dictionary is a must for people like me. I’ve been absolutely disappointed in this app. In my frustration and attempts to figure out why more than half the words I search for are not found, I realized the word English was missing from the app title. Absolutely my mistake. However, despite not being a digital branch of the OED, the amount of words not found is appalling. Words listed in the thesaurus section don’t even return dictionary results. This app lacks so much that other dictionary apps have. Etymology, usages or examples, among others.

I have paid for the premium level for this app for close to three years and just started getting ads. I canceled my subscription and deleted the app.

This dictionary used to be mandatory in my college classes. Now the OED makes you sit through scam ads before letting you look at a definition. The other option is a paid subscription. To a dictionary.

If it really has something to do with the legendary Oxford University, that is so sad. The app constantly asks for money at every step. No audio is available without it. Also, without Premium, it seems it doesn't work offline, which is crazy.

I mean it helps me with homework but at the same time it has ads some they say don’t have meanings.
