So, this is almost as much a masterpiece as the musical is. I originally found this in my library. I read it and I loved it. I had written many fanfics and read some. I hadn’t agreed with most of them. This is the closest thing I’ve found to my taste. The series has a bit of everything. Lams, Hamliza, Hamgelica, you name it. Eliza was every Disney princess ever and it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. (Eliza would probably be a Disney princess tbh.) Alex is, well, every guy at this age, whether it’s 2023 or 1780. He’s kind of stupid, as guys are from 13- about 21 (maybe older). (Every girl has agreed with me at one point or another.) I love how Eliza was kind of annoyed at the beginning. She’s like “Dude, I’m an adult. I don’t want you to touch me or dance with me or ride a horse for me. My sister taught me how to say no to guys. Fries before guys.” And Alex is like “She’s a Schuyler, she’s cute, I WANT HER.” (Every relationship ever) I didn’t like how she got harassed at the end. And I could do without all the weird adult stuff. The world could do with a little less of that. I guess that explains why they had FREAKING EIGHT CHILDREN. (Omg Eliza’s waist. And her hair!) I am wondering though, how many people love Hamliza like I do? Anyway, I think my favorite part is when Alex brings Eliza to her aunt’s house while she catches a cold. It’s like that scene at the end of Frozen when he carries her into the castle. See that? Yes, that’s what I saw. (Don’t tell me you can’t see that now) If I want to break it down more, I will and it’ll be weird. See you then!

I did thoroughly enjoy this book, and I could not put it down. Some critiques I have are that this was written like a fanfic to, I feel if I were to search Hamilton on Wattpad, This would pop up. I feel like it was too happy and lighthearted, when Hamilton was really a mess. So although it was good, it was a little fan-fricky

I want to start off by saying that I didn't originally hold any ill will toward Melissa De La Cruz. I actually really enjoyed her Blue Bloods series. That being said, this book is the worst. It reads like the tumblr fanfic of a delusional twelve year old. I'm sure this would be enjoyed by people who deny climate change because they know how to ignore reality. In reality, Alexander Hamilton was a playboy who was probably bisexual. In this book he's portrayed as some wild playboy who gives up his ways as soon as he sees "Eliza's beauty that takes the best parts of both of her sisters." (She's described like this several times.) Eliza reads like a Mary Sue. She has no flaws, can do no wrong, and manages to have everything work out in her favor. The book ends with "And Eliza finally found the fairytale marriage she was searching for" or something equally cliche. But that's where it cuts off. Their marriage day ends the novel and the audience learns nothing of his affairs with Maria Reynolds or Angelica Schuyler. This wouldn't even be so bad except in her dedication, De La Cruz talks about seeing Hamilton and how it inspired her to write this book. Did she fall asleep for the second act? Did she go temporality blind and deaf? Did a meteor strike the theatre preventing the second half of the play from being shown? How many more stories could have been improved if only the author choose to ignore the bad parts of a persons life? To end this long rant, Melissa De La Cruz should stick to writing vampires. Reality and telling accurate history just isn't her thing.
