Description

Enjoy this story by historical fantasy romance author Anne Renwick where you'll unravel mysteries and defy conventions in a world where danger lurks around every corner. You’ll find forbidden romance, evil villains and mad science...

On the foggy streets of Victorian London, secrets and spies hide in a world of gaslamp fantasy.

Lady Amanda blackmailed her way into a prestigious London medical school…

Not the preferred method of entrance, of course, but necessary, for it’s the only way to force Lord Thornton, a professor at the school, to help her perfect her invention: a clockwork spider capable of spinning artificial nerves.

And Lord Thornton is interested… but is he interested in Amanda, or simply the invention that could cure his own debilitating injury? Neither one can trust the other, but both know this: any attraction is a danger, any romance forbidden.

But when a foreign spy steals the spider and uses it to perform grisly experiments on human subjects, they must set aside both their differences and their growing attraction to capture the killer terrorizing the streets of London.

Although it took a bit longer to get into the story, I finally did and thoroughly enjoyed the golden spider. Why have the eyes of the gypsies been removed and what has it got to do with her golden spider? I’m not telling. You’ll have to read that for yourselves. I’ll be looking for more of her books very soon.

If you’re new to Steampunk or Steampunk is your thing, this is an excellent book that I highly recommend. The book contains well described objects of the steampunk world that is a unique world, great characters, adventure, twists and turns, romance and love. And best of all, a HEA ending. If there was anything that could be improved upon it would be that the ending felt rushed but I’d still recommend this book.

Another fantastic story in the steampunk world I have come to thoroughly enjoy! This brings us with Amanda and Sebastian (Thornton) - the sister of Emily. I cheered for Amanda throughout the book and I liked how strong, quick and intelligent she was. I also loved the action and suspense of their adventure in creating a device to help others and solving a serial killer’s crimes. Highly recommend and cannot wait to read the next book in this series

If you’re apt for science and passionate for romance, you can’t go wrong with any of Anne’s writings. I’ve read her Elemental Steampunk Chronicles out of order, but have to say - it didn’t matter much. They all gush with her ingeniously woven worlds, and are certainly binge worthy!

This story was fantastic!! Amanda a smart, strong willed woman has designed the most interesting contraption to help her broken brother. When the murders pick up after her device goes missing Sebastian who is a queen’s agent as well as a professor pulls her in on the case where it’s her device. This book has it all, London, science, adventure, murder, mystery, clockwork contraptions, and some very hot scenes! 18+
