Description

Adrian Tchaikovsky's Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning novel Children of Time is the epic story of humanity's battle for survival on a terraformed planet.

Who will inherit this new Earth?

The last remnants of the human race left a dying Earth, desperate to find a new home among the stars. Following in the footsteps of their ancestors, they discover the greatest treasure of the past age—a world terraformed and prepared for human life.

But all is not right in this new Eden. In the long years since the planet was abandoned, the work of its architects has borne disastrous fruit. The planet is not waiting for them, pristine and unoccupied. New masters have turned it from a refuge into mankind's worst nightmare.

Now two civilizations are on a collision course, both testing the boundaries of what they will do to survive. As the fate of humanity hangs in the balance, who are the true heirs of this new Earth?

Couldn’t stop reading this! It’s been so long since I’ve found a book or series that’s caught my attention. Normally I get distracted by life and it takes me months to finish a book. I knocked this out in a week! Can’t wait to read the next one!

Beautifully written, such a fun read. Definitely an epic worth taking the time to dive into! As someone who usually goes for high fantasy, I can’t recommend this sci-fi book enough!
  • A slow burn but fascinating concept

The world building in this book is breathless. I don't think i have ever read anything like it. I love the parallels between the two races and the deep lore and history the author created. It is a book that is better enjoyed slowly than in one go.

Incredible story that reminds me a bit of Cloud Atlas (Tom Hanks, Halle Berry). This novel follows the end of the human race & their attempt to escape self-induced extinction. Aboard the Gilgamesh are a group of Key Crew members made up of security forces, leaders, historians, and engineers. These individuals come in and out of hypersleep to make life-altering decisions about a “green-world.” Great read that transcends more than just well-written sci-fi. It touches on philosophical concepts of empathy, culture, and exploration. 10/10 loved it. P.S. Won’t spoil it, but the POV in some chapters is hard for people to move past. Don’t let a unique perspective stop you from reading an incredible book!

Truly impressive vision of one of humanity’s possible paths, time compressed through hibernation. The technological paths and antithetical perspectives presented in the story set this tale on the top shelf, and left this reader thankful for a wider lens from which to view the universe.
  • Dragged on for so long

This was a tedious read. Won’t be reading the others in the series. Great concept, but an absolute SLOG.
