"Gorgeous." —People

“The perfect summer read...it is propulsive and drenched in light, just like the title.” —Jenna Bush Hager

“Radiant...What begins as a teenage romance in 1950s Florida becomes an intimate, deeply moving story of separation, sacrifice, and self-determination—and of how early love shapes the lives we carry forward.” —Christina Baker Kline

“The kind of book that makes you lean closer, then hold your breath as the beauty and betrayal unfold. I couldn’t stop reading. I couldn’t stop hoping. What an extraordinary novel!” —Ariel Lawhon

A forbidden love blows open the world of a teenage girl, altering the trajectory of her life–from the author of the New York Times bestseller The Chaperone

It’s 1949, early in the Cold War, but St. Petersburg, Florida is warm, lush, and booming with newcomers seeking sunshine and opportunity. For seventeen-year-old Nora, St. Pete feels like paradise, especially after she meets and wins over Leonard, the shy, brilliant son of transplanted New Yorkers. Nora and Leonard are soon spending balmy days and evenings together, and in her adoring, encouraging company, he grows more confident, even as he remains tender and caring. Leonard's sophisticated mother welcomes Nora into their lives, but his father distrusts her motives.

When his suspicions are seemingly confirmed, Nora is forced to cut contact. In her longing and fear, she takes a chance that changes her life, exiling her from the family she loves and setting off a chain of secrets and betrayals that will follow her into adulthood. It is a mature Nora who tells the story of her turbulent past. Wiser and more worldly, she commits to an honest but compassionate account, and to a future based on trusting, first and foremost, herself.
Sunlight Finds You is, ultimately, a love story set in the past that has much to say about our present. Richly layered and propulsive, it’s a book about extending forgiveness—for ourselves, and for others—and about refusing to settle for a life that is less than full.

Nora is the most emotive and sensitive character in this story. It’s narrated by her POV and follows her throughout her childhood into adulthood. The journey this woman takes us readers on is profound. Her life was full of so much grief and sorrow and of love and compassion but it is her character and personality and inner strength and dialogue that is by far Nora’s greatest contribution to those around her and to herself. Another woman couldn’t have gone through what she did at such a young age and continued to carry herself with such grace. The devastating loss she endured and would suffer and how she chose to live in the aftermath was naturally one of the main reasons that I was so inspired by her but it was her courage, strength and resilience that stands out and her ability to forgive both herself and others who’s betrayal was most certainly the kind that many of us couldn’t have been able to overcome or even comprehend with compassion let alone, forgive and accept those people for who they were and what they’d done but wasn’t bitter nor held against them. She was and is one of the most remarkable and genuinely beautiful woman I have ever had the good fortune of learning about. Whether she was a fictional character or not, she will always remain a dignified and unforgettable character for me, literally and figuratively speaking. Leonard was also a character who left me full of such admiration for his own individual qualities and character that was one of uncontested courage, resilience and a quiet strength that was notable to all those who had the honor of becoming close enough to him to witness it as well as receive some of it for themselves. He had an innate ability to fill within his loved ones the strength or the ability they needed yet couldn’t fulfill themselves for whatever reason and he’d remind them of all the power they possessed and all they were capable of and send them off with enough strength of his own to believe it in themselves. It was a gift and it is one of those traits that remains unforgettable and beyond admirable whether we witness it via a character in a book or better, someone we know or know of. This is one of those stories that an author writes that has the characters who will always be remembered with clarity and fondness, a story that is indelibly marked in our minds and it’s a rare rare gem in the book world. Yet, these “once in a blue moon”times when a reader finds that story that has those characters that both have equally impressed upon you ALL THE THINGS and will undoubtedly remain unforgettable and incomparable. Laura Moriarty is that author for me. SUNLIGHT FINDS YOU is that story, the book that will hold a permanent place in my heart because the impact it’s left on me is indelible and profound. This story was “all the things” that make our hearts soar and our minds grow. Incredibly powerful.

Easy read. Could have been a little shorter. But, worth reading.
