Description

Academy Award®-winning director Steven Soderbergh plunges audiences into the suspense and drama of a resilient woman’s fight to reclaim her freedom even as she risks her own sanity. Still scarred from the trauma of being terrorized by a stalker, Sawyer Valentini (Claire Foy, The Crown) receives treatments at the Highland Creek Behavioral Center. However, shortly after she unwittingly commits herself to the mental institution and is unable to leave, she catches sight of a facility staffer who, she is convinced, is actually her stalker. But is he real or a production or delusion?

Great movie. I could sympathize with the main character because I once voluntarily admitted myself to a psychiatric unit for 2 days and I ended up staying an extra four or five days. I also remember feeling trapped because later I really felt I should not have admitted myself to begin with and that the place was actually making me worse. I’ve also been stalked a few times but not nearly as bad as the main character. Very suspenseful and smart movie. Highly recommended.

I haven't been in an asylum or the legal system for a long time, but I have trouble believing that they now house male and female clients in barracks rooms together, that self-admittance triggers lockdown without legal recourse, and that patients are abandoned overnight in the rubber room. That said, Claire Foy is given a vehicle to give the Furies a compelling voice, and I found the movie creepy and entertaining enough. Unless one is a malpractice lawyer, one hopes such things are not industry practice.

Anyone with any experience in the health care field in general, but especially the behavioral health care arena, would see a great deal of this to be very true and believable. The presentation of the stalker to the mix, although somewhat extreme, certainly isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Excellent movie all around. Highly recommend it.

It’s low budget, but that’s not even the issue. The writing and plot is just bad. I like movies that have some common sense to them. This isn’t it.

Some people believe this movie is farfetched, but study the history of asylums and mental hospitals, there is some really dark history behind them and it’s completely within the realm of possibility that events such as what takes place in this movie could happen, it already has in many, many cases. Great characters!

To me....except for the killer stalking me part. Went in for an anxiety attack and the nurse told me if the doc saw me she’d a tear that he would lock me up. Never seen a doc for anxiety since. This movie is my nightmare come true.

Cool soundtrack. Foy’s acting is always cool. Movie wasn’t great or bad...just ‘is what it is.’ So its an iTunes movie rental. I’m glad I watched it here for 99¢ and not blow all that money at the theatre.
