Description

There’s a ripple of disquiet in the locker-room when Leon, a new striker, joins the soccer team. Sharing a flat with keen rival Mario sets the scene for an unexpected love affair, but the path of gay love in this macho world is not an easy one. Mario is unwilling or unable to acknowledge the implications of what is happening. But pretend girlfriends don’t fool everyone. And gossip, along with the threat of blackmail, unbalances the team’s morale. With the prospect of a professional career a strong possibility, will Mario forsake the hope of emotional satisfaction for professional gain? This heart-warming rollercoaster of a film, set on and off the field, offers a dynamic and realistic picture of how gay professional athletes are still seen as out of step in the 21st century.

Thought this was such a great story the two main characters had a great connection sounded like They were standing up and being brave. But then the classic ending. Sad. Just don’t understand why they can really be a great love story between two regular guys without having some tragic ending. No wonder so many gay men are jaded depressed.

  • Soulful, well-acted film about promise and regrets.

Saw this knowing only that it was by the same director as “Fogi is a Bastard” which overruled the prejudiced expectations of a gay sports film. The acting is superb and very precise. The art direction is keeping with the acting in its minimalism. The last five minutes are completely heart crushing. Easily some of the best acting I’ve ever seen in conveying heart break.
  • Excellent!

Much better than I had expected. Is it worth having to read the captioning, due to German being spoken? Absolutely! Don’t let that keep you from treating yourself to this winner. You won’t regret it.
  • Takes a while to catch its groove

But once the movie gets going, it’s a fascinating look at the closet in pro sports, specifically soccer. The meeting with the agent and management is fascinating and the ending is... well you should just watch it.
