Description

Errol Morris' newest subjects are four eccentrics: MIT robot scientist Rodney Brooks; a topiary gardener George Mendonca; retired lion tamer Dave Hoover; and Ray Mendez, an authority on tiny mole rats. Morris creates a profound meditation on man's relationship with the world around him.

  • No beginning, no end. A typical Errol Morris film

Some pretty provocative and interesting moments - Errol Morris's OLD mash up of four weird o's in search of something or other. It's certainly not his "newest subject" - this thing predates Thin Blue Line. Like most EM fiilms, it starts out halfway through the story and meanders till 3/4 of the way through. But it's still pretty interesting.
  • Funny, beautiful, and mind-bending!

Okay, maybe it's not the "best movie ever," but I can certainly understand other people's enthusiasm -- this is a truly special, one-of-a-kind movie, and definitely one of my favorites of all time (documentary or otherwise)! Gorgeous, moving, nerdy, and very thought-provoking, and by far Morris's best (in fact, a good deal of his other stuff is downright bad, so don't pass on this one just b/c you don't like other Morris joints). The people he profiles -- a lion tamer, a roboticist, a topiary gardener, and a zoologist -- are individually enthralling (e.g., you get to hear neat stuff like why lion tamers use chairs:-), but once their stories start to mesh in your head (about halfway through, I'd say), the movie takes on incredibly rich intellectual and emotional depth, especially given all the strange and lovely stock footage and such Morris mixes in. One of the more important things in my own life (at the risk of rolling eyes) is the intersection between the spiritual and the rational, and this movie is both about that and a perfect example of just such an intersection. PLEASE give it a chance, you won't be disappointed (just make sure you're not tired when you start it -- it takes a bit of concentration to stay with it:-).
  • The best movie of all time!

Honestly, this is my favorite movie ever. Its hard to say one movie is your fave but this one really is. It really show how we are all connected in the most subtle and intelligent manner. Really, do yourself a favor and see this as soon as possible.
