A lot of young hollywood power house actors in one of the best US space flight films. Before the right stuff and apollo 13 this film set the feeling of what it was like to be in NASA in the 60's

This was Robert Altman's first and last commercial studio picture. He fought with the producers and was, um, relieved of command before shoting was completed. There's nothing Altman-y about it. It's a very straightforward, lightly sci-fi story about a manned moon shot, released a year before the actual Apollo landing. The way it's done here is completely different from the way it actually happened, which is sort of interesting. But the conventional way the script plods along makes it all a bit of a drone. Duvall, Caan and the rest do competent acting jobs, of course, but the bland script doesn't give them a lot to work with. It's okay, but no great shakes.
