Best not to read too much about this serious, humorless film before seeing it...as it has some disturbing twists. I will say the final message is shockingly relevant in the age of Trump...and terrifying, blind worship of wealthy businessmen and leaders. As an added bonus...it's one of the most gorgeously photographed B&W films of the 1940s, which is really saying something.

A slow Noirish look at Fascism post WW II and the possibility of it arising in this country under the guise of charismatic war heroes (Eisenhower?) The subtext is interesting, but the story unfolds slowly and the acting is stolid by both Hepburn and Tracy. Some good character acting in the part of the local cab driver and two of Tracy's fellow journalists, but overall this is a slow developing, low grade, semi depressing movie.

Certainly Katharine is so beautiful in this movie. The Tracy-Hepburn chemistry is extraordinary. The story is timely during any Presidential election and inspires you to reflect on politics and people.
