She keeps getting better...

Saw MCC live in support of this album when it was released, and it was the best of the 5 times I've seen/heard her live over the years. She's better each time, and this album proves it. The Blue Distance is a masterpiece, especially for those of us who live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge like she does... Her voice, her lyrics, her guitar playing, her stories -- magical live, magical on disc. Can't wait for the continuation of this journey.

I started following MCC over 30 years ago and I instantly fell in love with her music. As I realized we were the same age , it seemed she was always conveying similar life experiences. Her music has been a constant as I've raised three children, retired and now look forward to playing it for my grandchildren. I have enjoyed all of her music but this album seems promised to be one of her best
Good songs, but her voice sounds weaker

I don't know if it is the producer and the mic, or not enough compresison, but her vocals sound old and a little worn out. Granted she is not as young as she use to be, but the smooth vocals she had on previous records is missing on this one. Listen to Stones in the Road, The long way home, or Shut up and Kiss me. Her vocals are more up front, full and there is umph to her singing.
The songs seem good to only ok. It seems like there is no zip in the music. No they were having fun, its more like I am doing my job. There are more simple songs without the band kicking it up a bit.
What a talented songstress!!!

There are few in the music industry that has the talent to write and perform such as this lady! I never get tired of hearing here lyrics weave the stories of her soul.....The only other writer/singer that can evoke those emotions is Jackson Browne!! Love the writing and singing, may it never end!
What a beautiful album.

Not much else to add, the title of my review says it all. Saw her at Wolf Trap outside of DC a few weeks ago and the new songs were gorgeous live. Favorite tracks: The Blue Distance, Note on a Windshield, title track

What a gift the album is. Mary is a great poet. She makes me cry and smile all at once. Thank you for this.

Head and shoulders above every other female songwriter around today - no matter what genre. A voice made for intimacy and arrangements that nuture the song and don't drown them out with glossy sentimentality or over production. Up there with "Stones in the Road' as her greatest work to date. Quite simply, magnificent!

After hearing this new album by MCC, I am now a huge fan. This is a true piece of art. Now I'll have to go back and listen to herprevious albums, but I can't imagine them as good as this.
