Along with the usual gang of suspects are guest guitar players Joe Satriani, Robbie Krieger and Aldo Nova. The entire album is a gem... really well produced. Albert Bouchard did most of the early work but burned through the budget long before it was ready. Sandy Pearlman took over, got some more money and brought in the rest of BOC to finish it off. Unfortunately, it didn't sell so it was written off. Ten years ago, you had to pay over $50 on ebay for a CD of this. Now you can get it for a fraction of that and worth every penny. Others did not like the remake of Subhuman and Astronomy, but I think these are superior versions.
  • Good Songs, Horrible Mix

The songs on Imaginos have a similar quirky darkness to the first three albums, but unfortunately they were recorded and mixed in the late 1980s. That means heavily processed drums, a lot of midrange, and super-bright highs. I mixed that out as much as possible at home, and several great rock songs emerged. The only one I don't like is Astronomy, which is a new wave style remake of the original.
  • A half lovable mess

Terrific first half and a lousy second half. Not a true Blue Oyster Cult album in the fact that it started life as a collaboration between Al Bouchard and Sandy Pearlman , then turned into a BOC album after Eric Bloom and Donald Roeser agreed to play on it. Joe Bouchard admitted that he hardly played on the album. Perhaps the heaviest album BOC ever did, with layers and layers of guitars and loud booming drums. My two favorite songs are I Am The One You Warned Me Of and the Frankenstein song. The low point to me is the song Blue Oyster Cult, a remake of The Subhuman. I could also do without the remake of Astronomy, this time sung by Don Roeser. Great album cover!

If you are not a BOC you should still give it a try. To those of us that have been listining for years but have overlooked this one (shame, shame, shame). One of their best efforts. going to see them this October and I do hope they play some of this album. $8.00 is a small price to pay for something better than anything going today!

An amazing album - long out of print and sadly underrated. This is a cut down version of a project started by Albert Bouchard that eventually got turned into this BOC album and Albert shown the door. What's here is amazing stuff if a little under produced. It's an attempt to bring the long scattered "story" elements of the BOC catalogue together as a conceptual piece. Its one of their better albums and deserves some fresh attention! Get it!
