I wouldn't buy it. Just FYI. His old stuff is inspired. This stuff not so much.

i love it but i am very biased because anyone that knows vintage synths knows what he's using is what dreams are made of lol

When art is created in homage to a synthesizer, the synthesizer union members rejoice. I am not a member.

Definitely has that 90s NIN feel. I dig it.
  • Just dust of demos

Surprised Warp is releasing this - I understand a return to simplicity but this is not something they would have even released 20 years ago by RDJ. I'd really like to hear new material or more dynamic tracks vice the dust of his demos.

He made this on one of the worst synthesizers ever made, and turned it into an interesting but outstanding album, that alone makes the album great, but even if you leave the cheetah ms800 out of the picture, this album is still a great acid compilation and always great hearing that the man himself is releasing something new, he never disappoints
  • decent album, but I LOVE the concept. 5 stars.

He gets five stars for just doing something VERY interesting. Taking the notoriously horrible Cheetah synth and making an album out of it.

This is a welcome return to the classic Aphex Twin sounds showcased on SYRO. Taken alongside Computer Controlled... and Orphan Deejay Selek, this is another brief, fleeting glimpse of one of the many faces of Richard D. James. There's no question that it's good music... even excellent at times. But this one gets 4 stars because the RDJ I grew up with would have made a full album of Cheetah-programmed songs, and stretched the format to its absolute limit. This sounds pretty familiar, which is by no means a BAD thing, but it certainly doesn't put it next to The Richard D. James Album, I Care Because You Do, Drukqs, and SAW I & II. RDJ is one of my all-time favorite artists, and probably always will be, but as lovely as these sounds are, the tracklist lacks something. A sense of adventure maybe? I don't know. But I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, and I will certainly be blasting this crowd-pleasing record until my speakers go out. Ready for a new full length LP though. Not gonna lie.

It sure beats anything on the top 40 today, and he deserves his mullah. So take mine!
