  • I don’t get the hate

Everyone is whining about how it’s “not the same” and “no Blackmore”. This is true, but the band has taken a new approach with this and Now What!?. It’s a new reincarnation which I like. Highly recommend Time for Bedlam.
  • Not the 70s deep purple we loved

Let’s face it, these guys are running out of song ideas and are losing their edge. What happened to the hard-edged rock and roll that was on Machine Head? These guys are clearly aging too, though I will admit “one night in Vegas” is alright. And a couple others. Other than that skip this album, you’ll be disappointed.

Forget that it's purple, for MK2 fans, it's not. That said, it's a really good effort from experienced veteran musicians. Listen without rigid comparisons, you may find you like it, it's worth the risk!

Ok, where to begin? Been listening to DP for 40 years and saw them recently in Chicago. They went above and beyond expectations. I enjoyed Alice Cooper's theatricals but was glad to see DP stuck to stripped down version of hard rock like they always did, no BS. This album rocks hard, there are no low points, sounds fresh and as if they are having tons of fun making it. I wish they had played more from it at the concert but they have so much material ( whoever at RR Hall of Fame said they are a "one hit wonder" should go f**k themselves and never comment on rock'n'roll ever again ). And for you who keep talking about Blackmore and how this and that does not compare, that is ancient history, man, you can't listen to Smoke on the water alone for 40 years, Steve Morse and Don Airey are superb. I recommend this album 110%.
  • They tried their best, I suppose

Based on sound this is 4/5 of a Deep Purple album, unfortunately the best part is Deep Purple is missing. Without Blackmore there is just no edge and Ian Gillan's attempt to make it edgier with fouls language makes in juvenile at best. Hearing Gillan's growl does make me reminisce back to better days, but then after a while it starts to grate on my nerves and I keep thinking how from a talent perspective he is not even close to being the best lead singer to helm the band, in fact he is really third on the list (JLT is a better singer, unfortunately Slaves and Masters was lacking in good songwriting). This isn't a bad album, but it just isn't up to the legendary status of Deep Purple.

I like the album but why isn't the Purpendicular album not on iTunes? That's a good one.
  • What were they thinking?

You know, the music is not bad. The lyrics are over thought. They need to get back to some old school lyrics that don't mean as much but sound good and cool. The VOX are too loud in the mix and it makes the band sound small. They also need more jamming like olden days. They are thinking too catchy. They need some darkness. Maybe if they found a harder rock producer it would help. I LOVE THIS BAND for what it was and what it can be!
