One of the best albums to come out this year. The jazz rap albums have been great this year. Purple moonlight pages, miles (this album), innocent country 2. Just a lot of good jazz rap to come out this year.

I didn’t think blu and exile could top their certified classic “Below the heavens” or even “give me my flowers while I can still smell them” from 8 years ago but they did it in spectacular fashion. Every song adds value to the album and takes you on a long journey from blu’s life as an Mc to the beginning of man. Absolute masterpiece.

Individually or as a duo these guys work so hard to put out beautiful art, and it pays off in a big way here. Exile’s production never disappoints, and the diverse tempos and styles perfectly complement Blu’s poetry. They prove they’re at the top of their game, 13 years to the day after giving us a classic and eight years after their excellent sophomore project. Great flows, timely subject matter, and stellar guest spots from aceyalone, Miguel, ishe, iman omari, and others make this a must have
