  • Standing Ovation!

Everyone is so right about this album. It's got to be the most overlooked album (by "outsiders") of all time. It's simply brilliant! I was a huge HCJ fan before this album came out, but this album pushed me over the edge. More funk, please! <3 your 33 year old fan.

If you think you know anything about playing bass. You deserve the chance at putting this on your ear. The rhythm section on these tunes is just flat sick, and tight........as well.....ya know! HCJ knew what he had in a band when he made this album. If you are any type of musician you will I promise you truly enjoy this recording. After you listen to this record, go and spend $10 bucks and get Star Turtle........I'm telling you.......you own it to your ears. Pure perfection..........
  • A Complete Work of Art

I've known this album since the day I was born, 18 years ago, and I've yet to find an entire record so well compiled or so artistic and expressive. Anyone with an appreciation of music can see that this record was carefully crafted and just done right. Aside from the artistic composition, the musical talent displayed is freaking absurd, and the lyrics are all extremely good. Especially on Booker & Honestly Now. Very emotionally heavy and penetrating. I honestly just can't say enough good things about this record. I agree with several other people that this is really his ONLY good piece of work, but it is good enough that it overshadows everything else he's done. I'd recommend this to anyone seeking a rich and lasting musical experience.
  • Best Album Ever Produced

Honestly, this is the best piece of recorded work ever produced. Not to be sacrilegious, but this album is like the Bible. You will always get something new out of it every time you experience it. I have never tired of it. Why on EARTH did he not produce more albums like this? Your other stuff is great, Harry but we need more FUNK!
  • Out of character, yet totally OUT OF SIGHT!!

I was fortunate enough to see Harry's tourstop in ABQ for the SHE album...and let me tell you-- this album JAMS!! This album totally reflects the NOLA funk and swagga. I was so use to Harry's big band and jazz orchestra arrangements and compositions that this album is like a breath of fresh air. Download it and see for yourself!!
  • Harry Connick Major!

I agree with everyone on here in saying that this is his best album. I really wish he would do more of this these days. I used to listen to this as a teenager going to the lake in the summertime back when the world was perfect, so it has a special place in my heart and soul. Harry just rocks out on this album, I simply love it. And I agree if I had 5 cds to take with me on a secluded island this would definately be one of them! If you're thinking abot buying this, don't think anymore just do it, i promise you you will absolutely love this work of art.
  • A 'can't live without' album

I've bought this CD 3 times over the past decade and still listen to it at least once a month. I'm not usually into funk or really even H.C. Jr but this album just does it for me. If I were stranded on an island and could only have 5 CDs with me, this would definitely be one of them.
  • By far the best H.C Jr. album

This album has a groove like no other. It is infectious. I would call this departure from his norm the pinnacle of his art. I bought this album many years ago as a gift to my wife, and it got shelved as an 'older music' album before we even heard it, and this was '96. I went digging through my CDs a few weeks ago and actually listened. WOW. We had a dinner party a week ago with some younger (20 Something) folks who also found this to be a unique (and not in a bad way) groove and were shocked to find out who it was. A must have album.
  • Funky dunky!

This was one of the first compact discs I ever owned, played constantly in the first car I ever owned, on the first car CD player I ever owned. I remember playing "The Big Parade" over and over until I could play the drum solo beat-for-beat on my steering wheel and dashboard. How did I avoid getting into accidents? The grace of God on a 16-year-old Harry fan, I guess! This album is truly funky, and never ceases to bring a smile to my face.
  • Moved my soul!

I love this entire album. It has a way of lifting your spirit and moving your soul. I used a song from this album for my wedding and received so many inquiries as to where the song came from that it amazed me. This is an album that every one should own.
