I stumbled across a YouTube clip of Stephen Wilson Jr. yesterday on Christmas, maybe it was fate and his song “Im a Song” hit me square in the feels. The raw emotion, the way it weaves memories, loss, and music’s quiet power into something unbreakable… I don’t have words big enough for what this track stirred in me and as an album as a whole. Thank you, Stephen, for sharing this masterpiece. It reached right into my soul when I needed it most.

I dunno where SWJ had been my whole life but I need more. He just wrecked Stand By Me for anyone in the future that wants to cover it. No one will compare. You feel his soul in his music. A once in a lifetime talent.

I heard 1994 a couple years ago and was convinced SJW wrote it about my teenage self. Then at the end of 2024 I lost my dad and found the rest of this album. Father’s son and Grief is only love connect me with my late dad while Patches, I’m a song, Billy, Twisted and Calico Creek all take me to a better head space and remind me of my youth. This album is better and cheaper than therapy and my 9 year old son loves it too.
