Out of all the TS solo projects this is my favorite. I bought this on casette tape when it first came out and drove from Seattle WA to San Antonio TX listening to this album just a few times along the way...it sure made time fly and I had a great time! The arrangements were spectacular, the feeling in each song is deep and genuine and the story behind the lyrics keeps you interested. This is just a great album and now I have it on CD and in my iPod.

My FAVORITE songs are The weight of the World and Ever Since the World Began. The music and lyrics are so far much like early STYX it is like going back to the 70's!!!

The 80's were so awesome. The songwriting was great, the lead solos incredible, and the vocalist actually could sing not scream.

I've always been a huge fan of Styx, but was very curious what Tommy would do if on his own. As predicted, his talent on the guitar, vocal abilties, and song writing really come through. I'm surprised it didn't get more air play after coming out since a few of the songs really seem like they have the 'hook' in 'em, but sometimes I'm glad it didn't. Highly recommended.

Different Than STYX. Great Rock. Powerful Guitars. Good Beat. Everything That I Like In Rock & Roll. It Is Really Hard To Beat This Album!!!

Well, this is a decent Tommy Shaw album. It is a different band than from Girls With Guns and What If? So, this album has a different sound to it, to its detriment. Tommy covers Survivor's "Ever Since the World Began" and he does so rather well. James Young (JY) from Styx adds backing vocals to the cd, so on melodic portions of songs, it sounds rather nice. I want to give this cd 4 stars, because I am a fan of Tommy, but I must be honest. This album lacks something special. No Such Thing, Dangerous Game, Ever Since The World Began, and Are You Ready For Me are the best songs on the cd. Ambition, the title song, I just cannot get into. Weight of the World, lacks something as well. I Love You Too Much sounds too much like the stereotypical 80s music sound. The Outsider is marginal at best. Same is true with Lay Them Down. Girls With Guns was by and large the better solo release that Tommy did. His hunger is obvious in that release. Same is true with What If? Another reviewer said the cd is overproduced, which is an understatement. The earlier releases sounded raw and full of energy. Sadly, this cd lacks all of the qualities of those earlier releases I mentioned. Really this cd is only for the Shaw completeists.

I am glad to finally see this on iTunes. I've been trying to buy this long out of print cd for ages. It always seems to go for at least $30 on ebay. I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much so I've been making due with my old cassette. This is some of Tommy Shaw's best work....much better that What If and Girls With Guns. This shows that he can put out stuff that is awesome without having to sound anything like Styx. Tommy Shaw has one of the best voices in rock and this CD definitely shows why. Clean lyrics???? I don't ever recall an explicit version. Oh,well.
  • Great album from the 80's

The anonymous reviewer must be unclear on when this album was originally released - 1987. Could be why is sounds like 80's music, eh? I still have this on vinyl and am glad to see it here on iTunes! If you like great 80's power ballads, listen to "Every Since The World Began". This song was written by the Survivor guys (you remember Survivor - "Eye of the Tiger", etc.), and is a great ballad with great lyrics.
