THE CITY by Vangelis is another fine concept album in a long string of career spanning concepts (ANTARCTICA for example). In fact, his idea here was to create a soundtrack for a city. I don't know if he knew it at the time he recorded this work (in 1990), however, he was setting up a standard for a future filled with video game soundtracks in the spirit of Spencer Nilsen, Richard Jacques, and many others. This work closely resembles the feel of many of the SimCity or The Sims game soundtracks. Stacked side-by-side, I don't think you could tell them apart. If you enjoy hat music, you will most certainly enjoy taking a spin through Vangelis' city.

Vangelis does a great job of capturing, musically, what you'd expect a city to sound like. Play "Good to See You" and you can just imagine people walking past each other on a busy street and smiling, nodding to each other. "Side Streets" has kind of a mischievous vibe that has you imagining someone making a wrong turn down a street that's unfamiliar and strange. "The City" is primo Vangelis.
