even with the release of heartthrob (which i love in a different way), this will always be my favorite album. it's so raw and to the bone, so much emotion. every song is wonderful :)

Have a couple of favorites on this album. Way different than their new stuff but still pretty good. Been a fan for years.
  • Not my favorite.

As can see by the title and rating this album doesn't do for me what the other ones have accomplished. I still enjoy listening to Tegan and Sara greatly. Their voices are one of a kind. Similar to Metric, their voices seem little more rough, I like it though. Get this album if you are a big Tegan and Sara fan but, if you are just looking for those really excellent songs then I would go for either The Con or Sainthood.
  • Raw and addictive!

This Business of Art, Tegan and Sara's first official album, is definitely an acquired taste. If you've only listened to their recent albums (The Con & Sainthood for instance), you might find yourself a little taken back by their gravely, deeper voices. However, if you give it a listen, I think you'll find that this album is full of young, raw talent! Some of the tracks have become very addictive for me, such as "The First" and "My Number". If you truly want to get to know Tegan and Sara's music, start from their earliest beginnings! You will not be disappointed!

This is my favorite album as well, possibly because it reps freedom for me and a time when I left home and went 'on the road' to becoming all grown up, LOL...good times...it's very Stand-up-and-shout for what you believe in rock. I like the first two songs the best actually...this cd came out at a very liberating time for me, but if music is good, it's good. There were plenty of other albums I heard at that time, and none touched me like this one. Their voices were more real in my honest opinion. I have been conversly dissapointed in later albums, none of which had the effect on me that this one did. I mean, come on, what better lyrics are there than "Imagination / Inspiration, it's only fair that I tell you, I plan on leaving here tonight with my priiiiiide..."?
  • If you want to like it, listen in order

Like a lot of people, I've been listening to their albums backwards, starting with "The Con." If you ask me, I think they have just gotten better over the years, so if you listen to them in the order I did, then this album is probably not going to be up to par with "So Jealous" or "The Con." It was alright, but not as catchy as the last two albums. But I still love Tegan and Sara and I can't wait for their new album!

i hate these fake fans who say they love tegan and sara but they can't appreciate their old stuff. Yeah, sure The Con is a wonderful cd, i love it. But you can't really appreciate an artist until you have heard all of their old stuff. That's the thing about artists, they PROGRESS. They start out and they change, as more money and fame come their way they develop a better sound because they have more money to spend on the production of their cd. This Business Of Art is an amazing early release. They are amazing with simple guitars and their voices are real. I love "Superstar" and "Hype." So please, don't rip on this early album. I find it utterly amazing from such young and undiscovered (at the time) artists. Download it, Listen to it, Appreciate it. Because without this wonderful album you would not have your Tegan and Sara today.
  • from first track to last, a great cd

This is one of the few CDs I will listen to eithout skipping songs. The entire album progresses like a well written novel, smooth and easy to take. There is no ill-placed ballad or fast number that will take you out of its magic. Of the 5 Tegan and Sara albums, this is second only to The Con. The first track, aptly named "The First" is a great example of the harmony between Tegan and Sara. One of their best songs. "Frozen" is also a must-listen. My personal favorite on the album is "My Number," which is a lovely little song, sung sweetly and perfectly. This entire CD is very well written, and I cannot reccomend it more.

I started with The Con and worked my way through So Jealous, and now to This Business of Art. I love this CD. While each CD is different from the rest, I think each is very good. This CD has a bit more of a raw edge to it, and I think that's a good thing. It's not exactly The Con's haunting natural vocals, but this is the beginning of Tegan and Sara. I think all fans should appreciate it. I do! =)
