First time I heard of Garfunkel & Oates was tonight when someone linked to a You Tube video of This Party Has Just Taken A Turn For The Douche (not sure if that is the exact title) wow really good I think better than the stuff I've heard this far on ITunes which is also pretty good-I thought they would have legal trouble with the name-but probably not in that Garfunkel & Oates are well known but never really recorded many hits on their own (Art Garfunkel did a really great song called All I Know) but that name is terrific-basically taking the last two names of the least talented members of two extremely talented 70's duos. That took some balls and thought. Pretty cool and if I'd known Scrubs was at times this cutting edge I think I would have watched it.

Garfunkel and Oates' display of raw musical talent is outmatched only by their pitch-perfect comedic tone. And if that weren't enough, they're girls! You would think they were the byproduct of some folk-comedy orgy involving Flight of the Conchords, Tenacious D and Steven Lynch, if they just weren't so much cuter than those listed. Their songs cover a remarkable range from the bitingly sarcastic (pregnant women are smug), to the disarmingly sincere (as you are), all of which display a level of lyrical and compositional skill largely absent in folk comedy circles. Hall and Simon eat your heart out.
