  • Curtis, you are the man!

This soundtrack is simply marvelous! I am a serious Curtis Mayfield fan and I don't think the music industry has given him the full recognition for his brilliant contribution to writing, composing, and producing thought provoking music. If you ever want to gain a better understanding of the "grassroots" movement, listen to my man, Mr. Curtis Mayfield. In my opinion, the SuperFly soundtrack was the most misunderstood LP, ever. Mr. Mayfield, personally witnessed the effects of illicit drug use in the Black community and he eleoquently related an anti-drug use message thoughout this entire collection of songs. Peace to you always my, Dear Brother....

Curtis Mayfield was more than a gifted musician, he was a brilliant poet/philosopher who captured this period in time, the early 70's, in an historic alblum. He captures the anger, fustration and of the struggles in the Black Community and he transcends it with hope and a vision of a better future in songs like "No Thing on Me". 35 years later, has anything changed? Keep on pushin'!

As great as his earlier work with The Impressions was, nobody was prepared for his liftoff with all the solo work, with SUPERFLY being the crowning achievement of his storied career. The world is certainly a much poorer place for not having him in it - one listen to this album will tell you why. Every single part of the spectrum of human emotions is here, from the depths of despair ("Little Child Running Wild") to ecstasy ("Give Me Your Love") to contemplation of a wasted life ("Think") to hope of redemption ("No Thing On Me.") The man was a musical and lyrical genius. They just don't make 'em like Curtis anymore...
  • Some of THE BEST songs EVER are on this album!!

I must say that I did not know who Curtis Mayfield was even though I had heard and liked the superfly song. But one night my friend had Pusherman on his ipod and was playing it at a party and I loved it. Luckily I was able to search and found that Curtis Mayfield was the artist and then I was exposed to the rest of the album. There is 3 or 4 great songs to buy individually but its probably worth buying the entire thing. AT LEAST get pusherman!! the 20 or 30 second preview they give you doesn't do the song justice. However you got to be cool to fully appreciate it. Not for nerds. But nerds would like some other songs on the album.

This album is one of the greats, for sure. So soothing and relaxing to just chill and listen to. Also, if you are a DJ, this stuff is great for samples.Digable Planets sampled the beginning of "Give Me Your Love" for the chorus of "Nickel Bag", so thats interesting to hear. Definitely recommended

My mom bought this for me when I was just 6 years old. This is an absolute classic and my personal favorite soundtrack of all time. From top to bottom, the album is incredible. "Pusherman", "Freddie's Dead" and "Superfly" got lots of radio play, but also check out "Little Child Runnin' Wild." Curtis Mayfield was a genius, with a strong social conscience, and that certainly comes across in this group of tunes.

The music and the movie were ahead of it's time. I wish the movie was available for my i-pod.

Way back in 1973, my mom didn't understand why I bought this album. That vinyl LP is long gone, and I am happy to now have it in my digital collection. The extra songs on this album are worth it. The added horns on Pusherman, for example. Great, great album. Drugs are as much a part of our society as they were 30 years ago, and the message of hope and inspiration in the lyrics still resonate.
