Great live album and is a must listen. The doors were one of the best bands of all time. Each band member possesses a skill the Beatles could only dream of achieving.
  • RIP Ray Manzarek - great album

I've always loved the Doors and this performance in general is really one of their best because you can hear Ray absolutely kill it on his solos time and time again. He was a genius. As were Jim and Robby and John. Ray shall be missed.

This is interesting. A whole album containing the songs that the Doors played live at the Hollywood Bowl in 1968. To that one reviewer who wrote that rock history was made, yes it was, but it actually happened about 4 years earlier. The Beatles were in fact the first rock band to play at the Hollywood Bowl while they were on tour in 1964 and again one year later, which was right before the Doors did, but it allowed them and other bands to do the same later on. There is also an album of the Beatles playing live at the bowl, released in 1977, although it might only be available in vinyl format. I didn't know that this existed until now. Anyway, the Doors Live at the Bowl is a good of showcasing the band playing a live show at this historic and important venue. From what I've heard, there is also a video that shows footage of the band's show live at the Bowl. Cool.

Although the "HD sound" could have been a bit better, this stands out as a great performance. This is worth it just to have this version of The End, which also contains the graveyard poem and ode to a grasshopper. Good stuff all around.

They were and are misunderstood and definitely underrated. Robby was and still is brilliant on the guitar. Ray providing bass with keyboard was again brilliant and far ahead of the time. Jim's lyrics masterful. They were a group of musicians who should have been aloud to simply perform. Their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show is legendary. Being threaten to never coming back Morrison replied, "we just were!" One of my favorites part of the movie 'The Doors.'

In the summer of 1968, a legendary band hit the stage at the Hollywood Bowl and rock history was made.
