I've been listening to Jimmy Eat World since the beginning and have every album. From Chase This Light to Invented, Jimmy Eat World really propelled themselves onto a new level of amazing sound and their evolution forward was really apparent. When I first listened to Damage, I was turned off by the stripped down tracks and felt the album didn't fit in line after Invented. My advice if you feel the same way: grab some good speakers, turn the volume way up and listen to the album straight through; pay attention to every lyric, every guitar chord and you will come to appreciate how amazing Damage is. "Book of Love" and "Appreciation" are my favorites and easily stand up to classics like "Heart Is Hard to Find" and "Polaris". I definitely recommend getting this album to top off your collection.

These guys used to write incredibly catchy, melodramatic songs. Songs that made you question, want to rock out, sit in a room by yourself in the dark, and sparkle. Damage just didn't have good enough direction. It wasn't "good enough"! Where are the hooks? Where are the tight harmonies? As bands change, I get it...but I wish I didn't invest in the whole record.

"Damaged" is great, and "Book of Love" is solid. For the most part, the rest of this album has no sense of pacing. There's rarely any real peaks and valleys in the tracks which leaves my ears feeling really numb just a minute or two into these songs. On top of that, the lyrics feel lazy in many instances, and the vocals are borderline horrid at times. Tracks 2 and 4 are good, but the rest of this album is mostly just noise. Just lots of drums and guitars drowning out the often cringe-worthy vocals. It's really unpleasant, and pales in comparison to a good chunk of their past work. For similar, but vastly superior music, try Black Lab. You won't be disappointed, unless of course repetitive and cluttered sounding music is your thing.

This is up there with Bleed American and Futures. One of their best albums yet!

The songs and performance are great! The 'mastered for iTunes' version I downloaded sounds terrible! I should have bought the CD! Second time I've been burned by terrible mastering on great albums. You lost a customer Apple. (Not really, but no more mastered for iTunes' downloads for me!)

Just a good rock record. Not over produced or cheap sounding. Almost has that 90's sound to some songs. Love the emotion they pour into their music!
  • Its about TIME!! welcome back

As CRITICAL as I have been about Invented and Chase this Light...DAMAGE has been a breath of FRESH AIR!! more of a hybrid child of Clarity/bleed/Futures....I LOVE THIS ALBUM!! This is a flavor of the JEW we grew up with, and thats what I need to hear
