Reviews

  • Worth it just for Retaliate

Seriously, as far as albums go, there’s always going to be stronger tracks and weaker ones. Still, even with the weaker tracks on Transnational, I can’t think of any songs I didn’t care for. I’m definitely more a fan of their darker stuff, so Retaliate is automatically one of my faves, but even the other more melodic tracks are wonderful.

The Sound of Transnational is like their last album, Automatic, but better. Lyrically, VNV has got to be the best out there, and for me that's what gives them so much staying power. Yes, the synths and beats are brilliant as (almost) always but it's truly the fact of what they have to say about life and any kind of meaning in it that keeps me coming back again and again. I do miss their old darker sound, (i.e. Solitary, Standing, Honor, Kingdom, Darkangel, etc.) but the beauty to be found here, well...it's simply astonishing in a totally different way that only VNV can give us. As proof, I suggest the songs 'Teleconnect2' and 'If I Was'. For all-out incredible synth work, 'Aeroscope' hooked me immediately as did 'Retaliate'. Despite this actually NOT being my favorite album all around, (I'd still give that to Power, Faith, and Glory) this is still a 5 star album not to be missed. It's just got a much brighter, less gloomy feel than VNV of old. I'd rather have authentic statements from Ronan's heart such as this work than a re-hash of what's been done before. Thank you so much VNV, your ideas and attitudes are needed more than ever. Keep up the masterful work. Nevermind the critical, cynical reviews that really don't understand you and really never did. Deepest thanks.
  • Similar to Automatic

This one took a little while to grow on me. For the most part, this is typical VNV Nation as of the last couple of albums (mainly Automatic). Tracks like "Retaliate" prove they haven't completely lost touch with their harder sound, while a couple like "Everything" and "If I Was" are definitely more poppy. The production is excellent as usual, but I still can't help but feel this album could have benefited from a few more tracks--or maybe an EP release with remixes to go with it.

Tried listening to this album cause i use to really like vnv nation but wow what the heck happen to them i mean this album is like listening to conservative mainstream christian eletronic pop band. The songs are so naive and sugar coated it made my ears and mind hurt. This is the kind of music conservative christians would listen to. Well now i know not to ever listen to them again its true they sold out big time what a shame.

This album in fantastic! There are some subtle throwbacks to their older stuff, but this album picks up where Automatic left off and it does not dissappoint. Ronan delivers yet again!!!

Alright so I was hard pressed coming off one of their best albums (automatic) what we were going to get with this. This album is awesome. It's different. Very VNV nation but just like automatic was unique in sound so was this. It's almost like they had to go through a few albums, (judgment, matter and form, etc..) to come up with these last two gems of music. Looking back through the years at such meaningful albums and memories. It's such a great thing this band can still inspire new memories with quality new music that shows growth from the past but moreover a continued growth in their art. Kudos vnv nation. Job well done sirs
