Herrmann & Newman: The Egyptian

The score is almost Opera in scope. The two greatest film composers, (Herrmann and Newman), in movie history have created their absolute masterpiece. The Moscow Symphony and Choir expand the original 1954 soundtrack to new heights and majesty. If only the film was released by 20th Century Fox. But at least the score to the film survives to enthrall. This is a must-have for film score buffs. By all means listen, buy it, download it and feast to the glory of this one of a kind remastered soundtrack. You will be forever changed by the precise sound and digital mastery of this recording. Perfection!

The music is good. Herrmann and Newman were Hollywood "heavyweights" but this album has not been handled well in this instance. The cues are cut off several times while they are still playing. Some of the other tracks start suddenly after the orchestra is already playing. This is not good and spoils the album . The Moscow Symphony and Chorus are good and Stienberg reads these cues well, but the distraction of the sudden starting and stopping of the music ( in some places) is a detraction to a, otherwise, fine album.
