This must've been an amazing show to attend in person! Bowie in his prime. The guitars are so raw and his singing is fabulous. Very sexy very real very good. Bowie was one of the classiest/sexiest dudes in rock 'n' roll! There's a handful that will never be matched…he is one in my opinion.

I've had several copies of this recording over the years, starting with a vinyl bootleg I got in the 70s. This might have some engineering issues, but it is far and away the best live Bowie record. The energy is high, the band is lean and mean and most of the songs are from "Hunky Dory" and "Ziggy Stardust", which is to say, great. Mick Ronson is magnificently ferocious on guitar. His duet with Bowie on "Space Oddity" is my favorite version of the song. Bowie sounds terrific. This 'official' version cuts all the stage patter, which is a shame as it humanized Bowie a bit at a time when his public persona could come off somewhat chilly. A wonderful document.

Been Bowie fan since 77 It's a shame I only rediscovered this show a little after his death I saw Bowie twice in the 80s The music is raw (pretty awesome) But David's voice is clean as I ever heard it And it was unbelievable 2 times I saw him To all Bowie fans young and old This is good as it gets

I was thrilled to find this recording because it is the very same concert I saw at the Santa Monica Civic in 1972! Not only that, it was my very first rock concert! Wow! Bowie was my hero from the moment I first heard Starman when I was 16. RIP, David.

If you are a fan of The Man Who Sold the World, this version of The Width of a Circle is worth the price of admission. Raw Bowie and Ronson unmatched anywhere else.
  • Bowie raw and unpolished.

I know I heard this on the radio and recorded onto tape at one time. This was the young Bowie that was doing things to get noticed. His later live music was much more polished. Based on this live recording, I started purchasing his studio records and the studio versions of many of these songs. What is amazing is that you can feel the energy in the music at this time. The tempo was upbeat and fast compared to his later live record. If only I had been older when he performed this live in Santa Monica, CA, that would have been something.
