I curated these images and created this video to reflect on the Israeli-conceived and -executed carnage that is occurring in Gaza. My heartfelt gratitude to the photographers who risk their lives to take these searing photos, including Dawoud Abo Alkas (Anadolu via Getty Images), Mohammed Abed (AFP via Getty Images), Mahmud Hams (AFP via Getty Images), Mustafa Hasson (Anadolu via Getty Images), Mohammed Salem (Reuters), and those whose names appear on the images. Soundtrack: Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber Performed by Stjepan Hauser The composer Samuel Barber (1910-1981), who was born and grew up a short distance from my childhood home, wrote Adagio for Strings for the second movement of his String Quartet, Op. 11 in 1936. I discovered this musical gift from god when I was a high school student and have listened to it countless times since during some of the darkest periods of my life, including the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The quote at the end is from Nurit Peled-Alhanan's speech in 2013 at the Closing Session of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine. Israel has reached an unimaginable peak of evil. …The only possible conclusion must be that Israeli evil has nothing to do with Judaism and that what is manifested in Israeli behavior is not Jewishness. It is pure colonialist, nationalist and chauvinistic racism and should be treated as such.
