Boxing and television is a winning combination. ‘The Undercard,’ a five part documentary/reality series, takes this combination to a gritty conclusion as it follows the a stunning group of professional fighters in Dallas,/Fort Worth Texas from two of the oldest and most notable family gyms in the area. The fighters aren’t making millions-- in fact, many are working minimum wage jobs from construction helpers to restaurant servers. They are each pushing against the machine of life to find an opening that allows them to become fighters of note. “The Undercard’ is boxing- based but rife with entertaining and drama, shaped to re-invigorate the sport into public consciousness. In a region where boxing is alive and strong, this is a unvarnished examination of the young men whose love for the sport and dedication to training is the lone constant in their lives. Four episodes and one live fight event. Maple Avenue gym and the Montoya Boxing gym are the backdrop for their quest to become contenders.
