Co-directed and co-shot by Meena Murugesan and Marites Carino. Deeqa’a Song is a short poetic documentary that tells the tale of Deeqa Ibrahim, a reggae singer/songwriter. After narrowly escaping war-torn Somalia at the age of eleven, she was separated from her family and continued her search during the making of the film. Deeqa’s memories live in her songs, connecting her past to her present. This documentary reveals how music can nourish and strengthen the resilience of the human spirit. Will her family ever hear her soulful sounds?
